However, there's no need to lose your mind. Arbovale is approximately 16 kilometres away and features some fantastic places to crash, such as the Loggers Run and Leatherbark.

Attractions and Hotels Near Monterey

Don't spend all your break just in Monterey though — get out into the wider Shenandoah Valley region and into Mother Nature. The area has some stunning valleys and rolling hills that you really won't want to miss. There’s no shortage of fun activities to try out here either, such as hiking, caving and horse riding. Or just pull out your map, pick a place and see where the road takes you!

Caviar or corn dogs? However you like to roll, you're bound to love a trip to Snowshoe, 30 kilometres away. With the Cass Scenic Railroad and the Cass Railroad Museum to check out, you'll have plenty to keep you busy. If you'd like to visit Snowshoe, look into the rates at the Seneca and Highland House. 65 kilometres to the north of Monterey you'll find Elkins, which is home to the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites ELKINS and The Isaac Jackson Hotel. Elkins City Park and the Davis and Elkins College are just some of the most popular attractions to experience for those visiting Elkins.

For my wife’s birthday weekend I surprised her with a trip to this mountain getaway, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The hostess had a few birthday surprises for my wife which was very thoughtful. She was also very responsive when it came to contacting her for questions or for suggestions on what to do in the area. The cabin was amazing, very clean warm and inviting. Everything that you could need was available, from the bath towels to coffee maker. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly and the streaming smart tv was a very nice touch. I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone who is looking for a getaway retreat in the WV mountains!
