Go 85 kilometres southwest and you'll come across Kumamoto, a regional centre with a population of 700,000. While you're in this neck of the woods, you'll be able to work on your tourist game at Kengun Shrine, Kenritsu Library and Aso Hakusui Onsen. Aso Uchinomaki Onsen and Izumi Shrine are a couple more sights that are sure to offer up some envy-inducing photo ops. There are a range of great hotels where you can score a cosy room for a couple of nights in Kumamoto. Check out the facilities at the Kikunan Onsen UBL Hotel and Hotel Nikko Kumamoto.

On the plane? In a tizz cos you've got nowhere to stay at the other end? Don't panic! Odds are you'll be able to book a room at the With The Style Fukuoka. It's pretty close to Fukuoka Airport, which is 65 kilometres from the centre of Nakatsu.
