Holidays in Nansan

Been up 'til dawn way too often lately? Desperate for a break and a few early nights? Nansan might just be the ticket. It's set among the beaches, coastal plains and rivers of South Jeolla — nice and not too touristy. (We reckon you'll feel so relaxed, you'll be under the doona by sunset!)

It lies 270 kilometres south of South Korea's capital, Seoul.

Searching for a bit of time in the natural world? Start up the car and head in the direction of Naejangsan National Park, 40 kilometres away from Nansan. You can also get some fresh air at Wolchulsan National Park, 40 kilometres away.

Join excited fans cheering for the Gwangju FC at their home turf of Guus Hiddink Stadium, 6 kilometres away in Gwangju. Fit in with the locals by wearing the team's colours, red and gold.

How do you like the sound of the Gwangju National Museum and the Gwangju Art and Culture Center? These awesome sights are in Gwangju, located just 6 kilometres north of Nansan. Or maybe the Naju Pear Museum and the Yeongsangang River Culture Pavilion appeal more to you? To visit them, head to Naju, 16 kilometres southwest.

Roughly 25 kilometres to the northeast, Damyang is a destination chock-full with things to do. Gwanbangjerim Forest Park, the Bamboo Museum and the Bamboo Garden are all nearby. That said, the Myeonangjeong Pavilion and Geumjeong Fwarang are also worthy.

For something a bit more adventurous, you could check out the region's mountain climbing options. Or perhaps hiking is something you'd like to try? Whichever you opt for, you're bound to have a fun time.

Keeping up with a busy travel itinerary can be tiring. Why not plan a trip into the great outdoors and enjoy some relaxing picnicking or beach combing?

Whether you're plunging headfirst into it, drifting on it or zooming across it, not much beats being near the water. You can select from a range of watersports here, including swimming and boating.

Time to hit the skies? Pack up your bag, set the alarm and map out a route to Muan International Airport (MWX). It's some 40 kilometres to the west.
