Nice place decent cleanliness staff are on a level but they do accept animals in the rooms. The rooms they are clean enough not spacious whatsoever even though we had one of the largest.

I loved everything about this hotel. My only complaint, which is not really a complaint, is that the Broken Shacker closed at 12 PM on a Saturday when the website said 1 or 2 AM. My family and I were meeting up and we loved it! Staff is super friendly and the Cafe is good food at a great price. Many train stations nearby too!!

Property is in excellent condition although older. We stayed in a Private Quad (4 people, 2 bunk beds) and somewhat tight space especially for the upper beds due to low ceiling. I would suggest removing the large TV screen in front of the window to create more space and bring in more light. 2 robes provided, clean and modern bathroom and fresh towels. Staff are friendly and helpful. Great location, especially if you don’t mind walking, near subway stations. For short stays and great prices, I’d stay there again.

Nice place outside the craziness of nyc. Easy access to subway to get around. It’s loud if you’re on the top floors. We stayed on 16 and could here the music from the bar all night long, I’m sure lower floors were a little quieter

Terribly dirty and dusty. Bunk bed room is tiny and the pictures are misleading. There’s no place to sit. Terrible configuration and size for 4 people. No places to dine, the restaurant adjacent to hotel is always closed.

The room was very small ,which I could have dealt with, but the room was very dark and the main light flickered when it was on. I asked for someone to fix the light three times and nothing changed. The third time we were in the room and the man who came to look at the light said it cannot be fixed. The tv channels were all wrong, when you clicked on a channel from the guide you never knew what you would get. We asked if that could be fixed and heard nothing. Lastly, on a day that was 30 something degrees, we came back to our room to find an old portable heater in our room with no explanation but then realized the heat in the room was not working. When we called the front desk to have someone look at the thermostat they sent someone up and the man who came up explained that the heat was out In the entire building and they had no idea when it might come back. At the end of our stay we listed these issues and asked for a discount and have received NO money back. It’s a shame, I’ve stayed at freehand hotels in LA and Chicago and had good experiences. I would tell anyone considering the freehand in NY not to stay there!

Convenient and Beautiful
The Hotel is conveniently located near the empire state bldg and subway station. We had a very small room with double bunk beds for a family of 4, but the property is beautiful old vintage structures. Daily parking is expensive at $60. Better leave it outside and pay the meter. TY

The room was very comfortable with extras like a refrigerator and bathrobe. I was on the 14th floor and a corner room so there were two windows and the view was nice. The shower water pressure was great, often an issue in hotels. There was a great restaurant right next door where we had a fabulous dinner. And a parking garage and CVS right close by also. I will stay there again for sure.

It was a nice quiet place to stay. Quiet cozy. However, the rooms are tiny and the bathroom is even smaller. If you are tall and have long legs you cannot use the toilet.
