Welcome to the Sea Lodges of Cayman Kai and our condo The Getaway, unit #22.
Our unit was renovated in 2018!
Located on the North Side of the island this is the place to come if you want a peaceful less touristy island feel. Our two bedroom two bath condo has a great private sandy beach that is just steps from your door & sitting directly in front of a protected marine park. Swim 75-100 yards off your beach and explore an attractive reef as you float down to Rum Point for one of their world famous mud slides. It's a ten minute walk back to your condo to relax with a beer on one of the two screened in patios or chill under one of the thatch umbrellas on the beach.
If you want to save some extra money or just enjoy staying home, stop at the one of several groceries on your way out to Cayman Kai and pick up what you will need. Have a great meal with a picturesque view of the ocean while sitting on the back lanai. Go down to the beach and take in the stars on a clear night. Keep an eye out for the ghost crabs. The fully equipped kitchen has a toaster, coffee maker, microwave, stove & range, refrigerator, dishwasher, and beverage refrigerator. Pick up some charcoal and use the grill out front.
Our condo has an old style Cayman layout designed to be cooled by the tropical breezes that blow on the north side of the island. Most times of the year visitors prefer to use the tropical breeze to cool the unit. However, for guest convenience air conditioning is available throughout if you should choose to use it. If so, please put up the vinyl covers for each window and door. June - August is when people are most inclined to us the AC. In the unit we provide a few beach toys if you brought your little ones, and some snorkeling gear in case you or your buddy forgot to bring theirs. There is also a washer & dryer in the condo if you need it.
If you are looking for a quiet place without a lot of hustle and bustle you've found it! The north side of the island where our Sea Lodge is located is a slower pace of life than Seven Mile Beach. For those just wanting to relax while sitting on a lightly occupied beach you will be in heaven. If you need some activity before having your cool beverage, you can swim to the reef and explore for hours. The current moves steadily, but reasonably towards Rum Point. Along the way you'll see all manner of reef fish including Southern Stingrays, Nurse Sharks, Eagle Rays, Green Sea Turtles, and more. While at Rum Point you can chill under the Casuarina trees while waiting on lunch from the Wreck Bars' kitchen and have one of their cool drinks like a Mudslide, Daiquiri, Caybrew, or White Tip Lager. Red Sail Sports is located there too. You can rent jet skis, paddle boards, or even a small sail boat. Red Sail also does various charters from this location for snorkeling, sunset cruises, or a trip out to Stingray City. Where you can gently interact and feed some very friendly Southern Stingrays. During certain times of the year you can book a night kayaking trip with Cayman Kayaks to view the bio luminescent bay, one of the few in the world, located near Rum Point. Super cool! A few miles drive from the condo you can also take a hike on the Mastic Trail in the nature reserve. Here you can see some of the original dry forest vegetation of the island and it's excellent for bird watchers or plant enthusiasts. For a more leisurely walk stop by the Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Park to see beautifully maintained gardens, nature trail, and the elusive native Cayman Blue Iguanas.
Cayman Kai & the north side of the island are not known for their late night, night life. If you want that you'll have to venture back into Georgetown/Seven Mile Beach area. It's best to make a day of the trip to town. There are however, several bars and restaurants nearby. Except during high seasons, I would not expect them to be buzzing extra late. You can grab drinks at Rum Point's Wreck Bar, or The Rum Point Club Restaurant for a more formal setting. Our favorite close spot is Kaibo. Kaibo has a casual dining space and bar below, with seating on the beach, which overlooks the bay. Upstairs you have a pricier and much more formal dining experience.
