Holidays in Oiage

It's a no brainer — a life full of adventure is a life well-lived. So grab your passport, pack your things and say hello to Oiage!

It's situated 55 kilometres from Okayama and its busy streets.

Katsurahama Beach and Kashima Beach are perfect to visit if you're searching for somewhere to enjoy ocean views.

The serene sounds of nature are waiting for you at Tsusen-en Garden National Park. It sits just 35 kilometres away, so you won't need to be stuck in a car all day. Washuzan Hill, 30 kilometres away, is one more recommended option.

How about a bit of exercise? Work off some of those travel calories by taking a walk around Kagawayosuikinen Park. You can also keep a lookout for native plants and critters at the Sanuki Manno Park.

Don't just watch sport on the TV, feel it, live it and enjoy it at Marugame Stadium! Located 13 kilometres away in Takamatsu, it's a great place to get your fix whether you're going for the home or away team.

Whether you're determined to take on the black runs or find your feet on the beginners' slope, you'll just love the soft, fluffy snow at Ishizuchi Ski Area.

There's even more to see and do just around the corner. Kotohira, 5 kilometres to the north, is known for Kotohira-gu and the Konpira Grand Theatre. Alternatively, if New Reoma World and the Kotohira Town Hall are more your thing, go 9 kilometres east from Oiage to Nakatado.

You may get the urge to set up camp in Zentsuji for a little while. This place is 9 kilometres away and pretty close to the Iyadaniji Temple, the Shutsujakaji Temple and the Mandaraji Temple. Other nearby attractions are the Koyama Temple and the Sohonzan Zentsuji Temple.

Your eyes shouldn't have all the fun while you're in Kagawa. Give your taste buds a little attention too by trying the local food and beverage offerings. After all, you haven't truly experienced a place until you've tasted its flavours.

Do you want to know some of the essential ingredients used in cooking here? You're likely to be served beef and noodles in many of your meals.

There's always a local plate or two that you've absolutely got to try, and during your time in Oiage, tempura (deep fried seafood or vegetables) is definitely one of them. Sawachi ryori (sushi and raw fish) is another signature dish that's sure to make an impression.

Anpan (sweet roll) is a dessert that tells the story of this place in a single mouthful. Put in an order for a serving and then come back for seconds!

To beer or not to beer? Of course, the answer is always beer. While you're in this part of the world, Asahi Premium Beer Jukusen is the one you need.

In a fancy cocktail or straight up — the bartender should know the most satisfying way to drink junmaishu. When your evening begs for something a little stronger, you can't top this tipple!

Start knocking down that old language barrier by learning to say a couple of phrases in the local tongue. You'll gain a more enriching experience and a few new friends while you're at it! You may be glad you learnt 'Isshoni odorimasenka?', which is how you say 'would you like to dance?'. Another often used phrase is 'Kanpai' ('cheers/good health!').

Want to immerse yourself in the Birthday of Emperor Akihito festivities? Cross the 23rd of December in your diary and get ready to let your hair down with the locals!

It's always tricky to say "後でお会いしましょう (Atode o ai shimashou)" to Oiage, but we're sure you will have had an incredible trip.

When the time arrives to pack up your suitcase and fasten your seatbelt, the closest terminal, Kansai International Airport (KIX), is 130 kilometres to the east.
