Holidays in Payzac

Sick of scrolling through other people's holiday snaps while polishing off your brekkie? Then book a getaway to Payzac and start your days among the breathtaking rural landscapes and rivers of Limousin.

The nation's capital city, Paris, lies 390 kilometres to the north of Payzac.

You won't need to be stuck on the highway all day to see some nature. Just 40 kilometres out of Payzac, Cave of Lascaux is a wonderful place to sit back and relax. More picturesque surrounds await at Parc Naturel Regional Perigord, 45 kilometres away.

Travel 40 kilometres southeast to Stade Amedee Domenech to watch an exhilarating live game of rugby union. Located in Brive-la-Gaillarde, this stadium is the home of the Club Athlétique Brive Corrèze Limousin, so slip into some white and black and get ready for some fun!

If you're looking to do some exploring, add a trip to Segur-le-Chateau to your itinerary. This place is 6 kilometres to the east and is the home of Chateau d'Arnac-Pompadour and the Pompadour Hippodrome. After more ideas? Genis is 11 kilometres to the southwest of Payzac and is known for Chateau de Hautefort and Piscine Municipale.

Church of St-Martin, the Musee Labenche and Centre National d'Etudes Edmond Michelet are all pretty close to Ussac, 35 kilometres to the southeast. Want more reasons to stop by? Les Jardins de Colette and Collégiale St-Martin are not far away either.

If you're searching for a leisurely pursuit, there's nothing better than heading outdoors and going cycling or shore fishing.

Take a look behind the doors of the region's art museums, history museums, art galleries and craft workshops and take in all that they have to offer.

Pack your sunglasses and head on over to one of the surrounding area's various outdoor attractions. Its gardens are ready and waiting to be explored.

This area has a rich background. Spend a bit of time exploring some of the nearby castles and traditional villages. Don't stress if there isn't that much information available online — the locals are likely to have some tales to tell!

If you want an experience that goes beyond the material world, you might like to visit one or two churches, cathedrals and monasteries. It's a great opportunity to find out more about Payzac's beliefs.

Whether you enjoy chasing Michelin stars or gulping down a simple street snack, sampling the local food and drink is one of the greatest things about travel. So why not tantalise your taste buds by trying some of the region's decadent offerings?

An essential ingredient in the fare here is lamb. Another is mushrooms. Give them a go if you're not already a fan.

There's always a local recipe or two that you need to tick off the list, and while you're in Payzac, boudin noir aux châtaignes (black pudding with chestnuts) is definitely among them. Fondu creusois (camembert fondue with potatoes) is another traditional recipe that's bound to make an impression.

Talk to any experienced globetrotter and they'll tell you that the best way to get more from your getaway is to try out a couple of the local expressions and phrases. First off the bat, try to get your tongue around 'Je ne comprends pas'. It translates to 'I don't understand'. Maybe you'll find 'Bonne nuit' is a bit easier to roll off the tongue? This means 'good night'.

Food, dancing and music — national celebrations show us the best of what a country has to offer. Be sure to join in with the locals on Bastille Day on the 14th of July.

Before you say your final "À plus tard" to Payzac, check to see if you have any remaining change that you can spend on some last-minute memorabilia.

From the centre of Payzac, it's 160 kilometres to the southwest to Merignac Airport (BOD). This is the nearest airport. Remember to allow yourself a little extra time to find your way there so you don't miss your plane!

Hotels in Payzac

Eager to stay right in the middle of Payzac? Unfortunately, there isn't a single hotel in the entire area! There are a couple of options not that far away though. The closest place to spend your nights is the Auberge de la Mandrie, located just 4 kilometres away, in Segur-le-Chateau.

Nice well equiped property
"The property was well equiped for holiday requirements. Local village has what you need. The bakery was nice for fresh croissants and baguettes. Also a small intermarche within walking distance which was handy. Plenty to do in the area, château's, caves etc. We particularly liked the Base de Loisirs ..."
