Wonderful stay at a gorgeous historic landmark
Another truly memorable stay at what has become perhaps our favourite hotel, not just in Portland but anywhere. This hotel is not just top-notch in terms of comfort and service, but has a fascinating history too, and well deserves its status as an iconic Portland landmark.

We arrived early at the hotel and asked if there was any chance for an early check in. The front desk receptionist was so kind and was able to find a room for us. We also got advice on a nearby coffee shop.

Check-in was quick, and the front desk clerk was pleasant. I appreciated that. However, while the clerk noted that our child would be sleeping on the pull-out sofa bed, she didnt anticipate or comment that there wasn't any linens in the room. It would have been nice for her to note this. When I called down to the front desk to request linens, it took a very long time! The clerk commented that the housekeeping staff had other tasks and priorities, and there was only one housekeeper on duty. At nearly midnight, someone finally arrived to our room with the bedding, which was 4.5 hours before we had to wake-up to begin getting ready for our early morning flight. This was frustrating and disappointing.

Stayed with my wife at the Benson for her birthday trip. Hotel was beautiful as soon as you walk in, with very old vibe and very nice lobby. We had an amazing breakfast in the morning and our server Bobby was absolutely incredible! Gave us some good tips on stuff to see. I would definitely stay here again.

Staying at The Benson has never disappointed. It’s a classic and beautiful building with a lovely lobby and comfortable, large rooms. The staff is friendly and professional. Delicious burger on the room service menu. The area surrounding the hotel is still on the mend, but it doesn’t feel unsafe, and it is improving incrementally.

The Benson
Bathroom vanity was very small, but it is an older landmark hotel. Mattress was extremely comfortable. Restaurant service and food was quite good.

Good but I wouldn't stay again
The lobby was very nice and clean. The room itself did not look like it was thoroughly cleaned before we got there. I even found items that belonged to the previous people staying there. The lobby was supposed to have coffee in the morning but always ran out when we came down and wouldn't replace it for the guests. The tv was extremely basic which is surprising to see in 2024. Didn't realize how loud that street was at night and the room we got was extremely loud. The staff were all very nice.

The hotel is beautiful. However - there was a water issue during my stay that resulted in the water being off almost an entire day, and they didn't offer any kind of refund or even a free drink or some small gesture. I don't know whether the water issue was their fault but at a nicer place like this I should be able to reasonably expect running water.
