Casa Geranio was amazing. The owners and hosts Claudio and Gabriel were awesome and instantly made us feel at home. Here are some highlights:
The location - Santa Teresa was such a cool part of the city. High up on the hill overlooking the city, cobblestone roads and old stately homes. Great little bars and restaurants. The streets are well-lit at night and it is in easy walking distance to Lapa which has all the night-life. I didn't find getting around town from Santa Teresa was any more difficult that from anywhere else. The city is huge and spread out so unless you're hanging around right in the neighborhood you're staying in, you're likely to have a bit of a trek to get other places. I loved the character of Santa Teresa; you got a good feel for the historical Rio. Not touristy at all.
Breakfast - OMG, Claudio is a chef and his breakfast which was made fresh every day, right down to the freshly squeezed juices, was AMAZING! The food presentation was pure art and there were beautiful fruits, pastries, local cheese all served on lovely dishes. They set tables out for each couple or guest, not family style as is done sometimes at Bed and Breakfasts. It was romantic and peaceful.
Rooms - We stayed in Suite Carioca. I would highly recommend this if you are on a romantic getaway or want a peaceful space. We had our own pool and gated patio and city views. Very quiet space to enjoy wine in the evening while listening to the bustle of Lapa below.
