It's well known that simply spending time in nature is good for both your mind and body. Keeping that in mind, why wouldn't you travel 50 kilometres out of Rio to Mirror Lake State Park? Governor Nelson State Park, 40 kilometres away, is one more popular choice.

Make sure you pack some red and white clothing so you can support the local college basketball team, the Wisconsin Badgers, at Kohl Center. Located 45 kilometres away in Madison, the stadium is also the home ground of the Wisconsin Badgers.

Spend your day alternating between the fluffy snow and a roasting fire at Cascade Mountain Ski Area and Fox Hill Ski Area. From first timers to pros, there's something to please everyone at these snowy wonderlands.

Looking for some additional nearby destinations? Pardeeville is about 11 kilometres to the northwest, so get in the car and start exploring! Alternatively, Poynette, 15 kilometres southwest of Rio, is also worthy of your time.
