We also recommend jumping in a car and making your way to Aufaga. It's about 5 kilometres to the west and known for To-Sua Trench and Sopoaga Water Falls.
Pago Pago, 90 kilometres to the east, is a great day trip. Use it as a port of call when stopping by National Park of American Samoa, Mount Alava and Matafao Peak. If you need more convincing, other close by sights include Fagatele Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Cloud Rainforest to Reef Hike.
If you're keen for something a bit more energetic, you could check out the local mountain climbing options. Or perhaps hiking is more your thing? Whichever you decide, you're bound to have a fantastic time.

There's no better way to get to know a place than to literally take a bite out of it! You're invited to explore the culture, history and personality of Samoa by dining on some of its most fabulous food and drink.
A staple ingredient in the fare here is crayfish. One more is taro. They're worth getting a taste for if they're not a part of your food repertoire already.
No bona fide foodie would leave Saleapaga without eating one or two of the local specialties, such as taro root seasoned and baked in oven and oka l’a (marinated raw fish).
'Stressed' spelled backwards is 'desserts', and that's not just a coincidence. There's no more delicious way to let your worries melt away than with cooked green bananas in coconut cream, a sweet treat that's often found on dinner tables here.
Experienced travellers tend to put in the effort to learn a couple of words and phrases in the local tongue. They've come to realise that being able to communicate with the local people isn't just convenient, it's fun! 'Manuia, fa'afetai, ae an oe?' translates as 'fine thanks, and you?'. Another common phrase is 'Fa'amolemole' ('please').
Held annually on the 1st of June, Independence Day Celebration holds a special place in the locals' hearts and minds. It offers an excellent chance to discover the country's past and have a little fun while you're at it!
Before you pack up and say "Tōfā soifua", why not spend the last of your holiday allowance and treat yourself to some souvenirs of Saleapaga?
