Great historic property updated for a cozy stay. It was beautiful, comfortable and staff was great. The pool, though beautiful, was quite small and seemed unusable -- it looked like a mosquito haven of still water!
We highly recommend this hotel. We received such a warm welcome on arrival; the staff even helped us take our luggage up to our room. The breakfast area downstairs was beautiful and scenic, partially indoors and outside and the lady and guy that served us each day were so very friendly and helpful.
When we saw our room for the first time we were in awe; there was a small entry hall (lounge/ tv room) which led into the large bedroom with plenty of storage, with a large bathroom and shower and there was even access to our own private verandah on the roof with a view of rooftops and churches (the famous church of gold, a stones throw away).
The room was cleaned each day with beautiful precision and care, and even if we're still in the room they would call us to ask if we wanted our room cleaned. Last but by no means least, we must pay tribute to the front of house team, each and every one of them was so warm and polite and helpful, wishing us good morning or good night each time, giving us directions with such patience and always with a smile on their face. In particular we want to give huge praise to the lady in the white dress with curly hair who worked the day shift and Jeff who worked nights. We will definitely be back.
My stay at Hotel Villa Bahia was wonderful. It is very convenient within the Historic City Center. Breakfast was wonderful and the staff was very helpful to me as a first time traveler to Salvador.
This is a lovely small hotel in a restored old building. The rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished with a mixture of antiques and are very spacious . The staff are friendly and very helpful.
Pelourinho is the central area of Salvador, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The hotel is in the centre of Pelourinho, what can be better. Everything is within 3-10 min walk. Sometimes outside sounds come through but those are church bells or local talented musicians, pleasant to hear that authenticity. The hotel is in a historic building, once in you feel centuries old cultural spirit, truly inspiring. The era of Portuguese geographical discoveries. Beautifully decorated hotel, with meticulous attention to every historic detail. At the same time modern amenities are there as well so the rooms are very comfortable, nice and clean. Small swimming pool is a relief after hot walk. Rooftop area gives good views of central part of the city. Staff members take care of every visitor. Really enjoyed my stay in this historic hotel. Thanks a lot.
Lovely place, in the heart of Pelourinho. A safe street patrolled by police. Lovely room with lots of character and great service. Breakfast was very nice too, with a different regional dish every day.
The hotel is a gem. The location is excellent and the decor and service at the Hotel makes it a special experience. Restoration was done well and staff was friendly. It made our Salvador trip unforgettable.
This is a unique place to stay that fits in with the old world charm of the surrounding pelhourino area. The building is super old but has been well-kept and has modern amenities like air conditioning and an awesome shower. Comfortable bed. At the same time there are oddities like the old school window shutters and gigantic skeleton key to the room that makes you feel like you are back in time. There is some noise from the surrounding bars but it’s part of the charm of this part of the city and did not go on too late or disturb my sleep at all (you can always close windows and turn on air con). Staff was really lovely, helpful, and spoke good English. You hear some scare stories about pelhourino being unsafe. This is directly in the middle of the safest square in that neighborhood next to the main attraction, the church. If you stick to the main tourist areas/ paths (they are obvious) you’ll feel safe and have lots of options for shopping food and nightlife. Compared to other parts of Salvador I think this area is a must-see. Don’t miss it. And this is maybe the best place to stay in that area which already feels somehow back in time.
Fantastic location in centre of historic town, and very safe to walk about in the evening, which is an issue as a few blocks away from the centre it can be sketchy. The hotel itself was a sight of its own, as it is the former home of a sugar trade businessman, and it has beautiful pieces of that era while being beautifully restored. The breakfast in the terrace were delicious. The staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating. The only place we would stay in Salvador.
Wonderful kind service, everyone on the property from Marilene in the dining room to everyone at the front desk made me feel cared for and like I was staying at someone’s beautiful home because they treated me like a friend they cared about. When I was sick the hotel staff checked in on me and made sure I had tea. I am so grateful I was near such wonderful people while I recovered from my travel bug I got along the way. I think the colonialism theme of the hotel is the only downside, gives a dark vibe and feels pretty unoriginal. The hotel could easily be maintained as is but drop the intense colonialism elements and that would be refreshing. Good breakfast and pool looked super cute even though I didn’t swim.
