Holidays in Sansu
Been up 'til dawn way too often lately? Desperate for a break and a few quiet nights? Sansu has your name all over it. It's set among the beaches, coastal plains, rivers and mountains of South Jeolla — nice and not too touristy. (We bet you'll feel so relaxed, you'll be under the covers by sunset!)
South Korea's capital city, Seoul, sits around 330 kilometres to the north of Sansu.
You'll find an assortment of inviting natural sights not too far from Sansu. Why not set out 40 kilometres to Wolchulsan National Park? Alternatively, you can enjoy the different sights and sounds of Dadohae-haesang National Park, 45 kilometres away.
Do you like the sound of the National Maritime Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Yudal Mountain? These fantastic sights are in Mokpo, just 18 kilometres northeast of Sansu. Or maybe the Haenam Uhangri Dinosaur Museum and Haenam Institute Culture appeal more to you? To visit them, go to Haenam, 25 kilometres southeast.
Gwanbangjerim Forest Park, the Bamboo Museum and the Bamboo Garden are all very close to Damyang, 95 kilometres to the northeast. Want some more reasons to call in? The Myeonangjeong Pavilion and Geumjeong Fwarang are not far away either.
Release the adventurer within and check out the region's landscapes with a day of mountain climbing. Alternatively, perhaps you'd prefer to go hiking?
Picnicking and beach combing are enjoyable ways to slow things down if your busy travel schedule has left you feeling a little frayed around the edges.
Are you interested in watersports? Add a splash of excitement to your getaway by going swimming or boating.
We're not sure how they managed to cram so much into the region's history museums and craft workshops. Step inside and see what they've got on offer.

Learn about this area's intriguing past with a trip to some castles, traditional villages, old towns and fortresses. If a tour guide isn't available, do some of your own research.

Clothes? Check. ID? Check. But have you packed your appetite? With some delicious food and drink to gorge on around here, it's the one thing you really won't want to forget.
Do you enjoy pork? How about beans? Whether you're wild about them or not, they are two essential ingredients often found in the cuisine here.
Of course, you can't go to Sansu without trying a plate of bibimbap (sautéed vegetables on rice) or jeonju bibimbap (sautéed vegetables on rice). Popular with residents and considered regional classics, they are an essential experience for any self-respecting foodie.
Do you still have some give in your waistband after the main course? Then put in your order for bungeo-ppang (red bean filled pastry), an indulgent sweet treat.
They say life's not all beer and skittles, but there's nothing wrong with indulging in a cold one occasionally. When you're in this area, make sure it's Prime Max.
Neat or on the rocks — it doesn't matter! One or two shots of cheongju (rice wine) should add some fire to your night out! It's a local favourite here, and it's most certainly worth a taste.
Planning to be here around the 15th of August? You're in luck. Each year on this day, the whole nation joins together for Liberation Day.
If you're travelling by plane, you'll likely go through Muan International Airport (MWX). It's 40 kilometres to the north. Pack your bags, plan a route and set your alarm!
