Holidays in Seongbuk-gu

Do you click on every travel deal that finds its way into your inbox? Find yourself habitually stalking travel hashtags? It's time for a getaway and Seongbuk-gu, a neighbourhood in Seoul, is calling your name. One of the best things about travelling is the people you meet along the way. And with 10,300,000 locals calling the capital of South Korea home, there's loads of opportunities to meet a few new BFFs. After landing and gathering your bags at Gimpo International Airport, your taxi will head 20 kilometres east to arrive in Seongbuk-gu. From the city centre, it's a distance of 5 kilometres to the northeast.

This city is filled with awesome things to do, and you'll find many of them near Seongbuk-gu. It's no easy task to pick the best attractions, but Dongdaemun Market and Gyeongbok Palace are two you should not miss. Don't forget to put the National Museum and the Korea University on your schedule too. For another perspective on Seoul, head to Chongamil-tong and Miail-tong, nearby neighbourhoods just waiting to be explored.

The COEX Convention and Exhibition Center is certainly up there with the most well-known sights of Seoul. Reaching it won't be hard, as it's situated just 9 kilometres from the centre of the city.

If you're up for touring a few of the highlights in central Seoul, make your way to the Sungnyemun Gate and Deoksugung Palace. It'd be a shame to leave the area without stopping at N Seoul Tower and the Jogyesa Temple as well.

Korea House, the Seven Luck Casino Millennium Seoul Hilton Branch and sanmotoonge are excellent excuses to unwind after a long day's sightseeing.

Gain a better understanding of the cultural scene at the Sejong Cultural Center, the Arko Art Center, the Gallery Hyundai and the Kukje Gallery.

Sometimes a work of art can speak so loudly to you that you have to find out more about it. See if the staff can inform you about the works at the Seoul Museum of Art, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, the Artsonje Center and the Total Art Museum.

From interactive displays to curiosity‐inducing objects and artefacts, museums have something to keep everyone occupied. If you get stuck with some bad weather, why not take yourself over to the Lock Museum, the Agriculture Museum, the Daelim Museum and the Mokin Museum?

There's nothing quite like the atmosphere of excitement when a performance is due to kick off. Wait for the curtains to rise at the Chongdong Theater, the National Theater, the Seoul Namsan Gugakdang and the Gangbuk Jeongdong Nanta Theatre.

Kids often have fun in rather unlikely locations. Grab your camera and capture the moments at Ssamji-gil, the Seoul Animation Center, the Children's Folk Museum and the Namsan Cable Car.

Mt. Inwang and Baeksasil Valley are ideal spots for nature buffs to get out into the fresh air.

Whether you're in the mood to take a relaxing stroll or get some exercise in with your friends, the nearby green spaces are great places to be. Your options include Namsan Park, Seoul Forest, Tapgol Park and Sajik Park.

A trip away is a splendid opportunity to hit the shops and grab some gifts to take back home. Don't forget to swing by Namdaemun Market, Lotte Department Store, Seoul Folk Flea Market and Doota Mall!

The surrounding heritage sites will give you an illuminating glimpse into the area's interesting past. Changgyong Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, the Sungkyunkwan University and The Blue House have plenty of tales to tell.

Local sacred sites, such as Jongmyo Shrine, Myeongdong Cathedral, Waryongmyo Shrine and the Inwangsa Temple, give you the chance to reflect on life's big questions in a beautiful setting.
