Holidays in Shishahai

Travel is life. So pack your bags, kiss your nanna goodbye and head on over to Shishahai! A neighbourhood in Beijing, it's a great base for exploring this vibrant city's sights. The capital of China is home to around 11,700,000 people. Don't be afraid to get out and meet some of them! After landing and gathering your bags at Nanyuan Airport, your ride will travel 17 kilometres north to reach Shishahai. From the city centre, it's a commute of 4 kilometres to the north.

Shishahai is a sightseer's dream. Many of the city's best attractions are sprinkled near this interesting neighbourhood, including Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City. The gotta-see sights of the Tsinghua University and the Temple of Heaven are also at your fingertips. While you're here, consider checking out other neighbourhoods to taste more of what Beijing has to offer. Houhai Lake and Skewed Tobacco Pouch Street are great recommendations that are within easy reach.

You'll never be without things to do in the centre of the city. Beihai Park and the CCTV Headquarters will capture your attention for hours. You'd be mad to go back to your hotel room without calling in at the Great Hall of the People and the Lama Temple as well.

A bit worn out after rushing around all day? Set aside some time to relax at Lao She Teahouse and Yugong Yíshan!

Some interesting cultural sites are waiting. Start off at the Green T. House Art Gallery, the Pace, the China Art Gallery and the Creation Art Gallery.

If you have a taste for arts and culture, you should pay a visit to the National Art Museum of China, the Capital Museum, the Treasure Gallery and the UCCA. Stroll around and if one of the works speaks volumes to you, ask the staff for information about its background.

From hands-on displays to impressive objects and artefacts, museums have something for visitors of all ages. If you get stuck with some miserable weather, why not take yourself over to the Museum of the Chinese Revolution, the Mei Lanfang Memorial Museum, the Beijing Lu Xun Museum and Beijing Planetarium?

What nicer way to finish a day's sightseeing than with a few drinks and a good performance? Check the programme listings at the Chaoyang Theater, the National Centre for the Performing Arts, the Tiandi Theater and the Tianqiao Acrobatics Theatre.

Sometimes kids can have fun in rather unlikely locations. Take your camera and capture the moments at Beijing Aquarium, the National Library of China, the Beijing Wax Museum and Gongti Richina Underwater World.

The unique sights, sounds and smells of the Beijing Zoo and Birds Garden are a special treat for animal lovers.

Travelling with children can use up a lot of your energy. But never fear, you're bound to get a peaceful night's sleep after spending the day with them at Jingshan Table Tennis Park, Tuanjiehu Park and Happy Magic Water Cube.

Nothing calms the mind like the sights, sounds and smells of the outdoors. Enjoy a taste of it at Chinese Ethnic Culture Park, Beijing West Lakes and Shicha Lake Park.

A delightful feature of this suburb is its nearby green spaces. In the midst of all the action, there are plenty of spots to stretch out in the grass. Ditan Park, Jingshan Park, Ritan Park and Yuyuantan Park are some good options.

A holiday is the ideal time to hit the shops and grab yourself a few gifts. Make sure you stroll through Hongqiao Market, Yashow Market, Silk Street Market and Lady Street Market!

The Tiananmen, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, the Bell and Drum Towers and the China Museum of History can give you a glimpse back into the past.

The Houhai Park, the Temple of Confucius, St. Joseph's Cathedral and the Niujie Mosque offer visitors an opportunity to see the region's spiritual side.
