If you have your sights set on visiting Shukunegi, bear this in mind — accommodation options in the vicinity are as few and far between as the hair on your great uncle Frank's head!

However, there's no need to lose your mind. Izumozaki-machi is around 50 kilometres away and boasts some great hotels, including the Hotel Route-Inn Nagaoka Inter and Hotel Route-Inn Nagaoka Ekimae.

Everyone knows Aussies are pretty laid back, so consider kicking back a little longer and going to the Honjoji Temple and Sawa House of Shogun in Tsubame, 60 kilometres to the east of Shukunegi.
