Holidays in Siekierki

Throw in your job, book a ticket, get a tan, find love, never return. You don't have to do all of those things, but one you should do is secure that ticket to Siekierki. One of the many 'hoods of Warsaw, it's a great base for sussing out all that this city has to offer. One of the best parts of travelling is the people you meet on the way. And with 1,700,000 locals living in the capital of Poland, there's ample opportunity to meet a few new BFFs. Siekierki is 5 kilometres southeast of central Warsaw. If you're arriving via Frederic Chopin Airport, throw your suitcase in the boot of a taxi and head 9 kilometres northeast.

With a great deal of the city's top sights nearby, Siekierki is a sightseer's dream. From Royal Castle to Old Town Square, you won't run out of things to keep you entertained. After taking a look at those, you're going to want to head onwards to Laznieki Park and Presidential Palace. For a better perspective of this city as a whole, spend time in the close-by neighbourhoods of Goclaw and Saska Kepa.

There are loads of reasons why so many visitors throng to the city centre. The Warsaw Uprising Museum and the Warsaw Uprising Monument are two of the best of them. Alternatively, take a look around Powazki Cemetery and the University of Warsaw.

Head to some cultural sites to understand the real essence of the region. The Palm Tree, the Foksal Gallery, the Galeria Centrum and the Galeria Art are recommended stops.

Breathe easy while you experience the stimulating artworks on display at the National Museum, the Zacheta, the John Paul II Museum and the Centre of Contemporary Art. Afterwards, why not grab a coffee from a local café and muse over your time there?

Sometimes it's the most talked about exhibits that impress us the most. Other times it's an under-valued artefact that's been stored away in a dusty corner. Keep an eye out for both at the Poster Museum, the Fryderyk Chopin Museum, the Polish Army Museum and the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Museum.

Seeing a top-notch show is a thrilling experience. Reserve a seat at the Grand Theatre, the National Theatre, the Warsaw Fotoplastikon and the Polish Theatre in Warsaw for a memorable night out.

Kids can have the best time in rather unusual places. Take your camera and capture the moments at Wodny Park, the National Library of Poland and the University of Warsaw Library.

Kids can't spend all day sightseeing. Give them what they want and take them to one of the area's family-friendly attractions. They can choose from Room Escape Warsaw and Pole Mokotowskie.

Go for a long walk at the Warsaw University Botanical Garden and Water Reservoir. If you're lucky, you might even catch sight of some local animals!

If the vigour of the city is wearing you out, recharge your batteries in one of the local green spaces. Saxon Gardens, Skaryszewski Park, Ujazdow Park and Agrykola Park are wonderful places to take a relaxing stroll or read a book.

A holiday is the ideal time to go on a shopping spree and grab yourself some knickknacks. Remember to swing by Golden Terraces, Sadyba Best Mall, Galeria Mokotow Shopping Centre and Promenada Shopping Centre!

The nearby historic sites will give you an illuminating glimpse into the area's past. Wilanow Palace, Warsaw Ghetto, the Tomb of Unknown Soldier and the Warsaw University of Technology have plenty of stories to tell.

Learn more about the region's spiritual aspects at Holy Cross Church, St. John's Cathedral, St. Anne's Church and Church of Holy Spirit. These sites are worth visiting whether you're religious or not.

Deck yourself out in white and black, head in the direction of Polish Army Stadium and heartily cheer on the Legia Warszawa SA. A visit to this venue is an absolute must for true soccer fans!
