And with 500,000 locals living in the capital of Portugal, there's plenty of opportunities to meet new BFFs. Sintra is 25 kilometres northwest of the city's centre. If you're arriving via Humberto Delgado Airport, hurl your suitcase in the boot of a taxi and travel 25 kilometres west.

A good deal of this city's leading sights are dotted near Sintra, and Quinta da Regaleira and Pena Palace are some of the most impressive. The gotta-see sights of Moorish Castle and Guincho Beach are also waiting for you.
