Holidays in St. Mullins

St. Mullins is a place that has stacks of cool stories to tell. If you feel like your life's been a bit dull lately, a trip here is the perfect answer!

It lies 100 kilometres to the southwest of the country's capital, Dublin.

The House of Waterford Crystal is situated in Ballyhack, 30 kilometres away. This terrific attraction is definitely worth the journey.

Don't forget to bring a hamper of food and refreshing drinks so you can indulge in a leisurely lunch on the shore at Curracloe Beach or Brittas Bay Beach.

You don't have to venture too far afield to experience some nice natural sights. Jump in the car and follow the road to Dunmore Cave, 35 kilometres away from St. Mullins, for a laid-back day. Or maybe Wexford Wildfowl Reserve looks more appealing? It's located just 35 kilometres away.

Don't forget to pack some red, green and gold clothes so you can encourage the local Gaelic football team, the Carlow GAA, at Dr. Cullen Park. Located 40 kilometres away in Carlow, the stadium is also the home turf of the Carlow GAA.

Don't worry, you needn't skip your weekly golf game. The Carrigleade Golf Course is available for friendly play.

If you're considering venturing outwards, journey 5 kilometres northwest to Tinnahinch. This is where you'll come across Duiske Abbey and Woodstock Estate. We also suggest heading to Graiguenamanagh, 6 kilometres to the northwest, for the Borris Golf Club and Clashganny Lock.

Both travellers and locals often make the trip to Thomastown. This destination is 17 kilometres to the west and quite close to Jerpoint Abbey, the Mount Juliet Golf Course and the Jerpoint Park. If you're staying on a little while, don't miss Grennan Castle and The Watergarden.

Eating is one of life's biggest pleasures, and since you're here, you probably think travel is too. Combine your passion for both by venturing out and tasting the local cuisine at a few of the cafés, bars and restaurants in town.

A common ingredient in the cuisine here is mutton. Another is pork. Give them a go if they're not a part of your food repertoire already.

Are you looking for a traditional St. Mullins dining experience? There are some specialties to keep an eye out for, such as Irish stew (lamb or mutton with potato, onion and parsley) and bacon and cabbage (pork back boiled with cabbage and potato).

'Stressed' spelled backwards is 'desserts', and that's not just a coincidence. There's no tastier way to let your troubles melt away than with sweet seedcake loaf, a treat often found on dining tables here.

For fans of a satisfying pint, get comfy at a bar and request Murphy’s Irish Stout. Enjoy a glass with a side of storytelling and socialising with the locals.

Do you plan to be here on the 17th of March? What good luck. On this date each year, the whole country bands together for Saint Patrick's Day.

It might be time to leave and head home, but it needn't be forever. Why not save your remaining European euros for another holiday to this beautiful region?

Ready to take to the skies? Map a route, pack up your bag and set an alarm. The nearest airport, Dublin Airport (DUB), is around 110 kilometres to the northeast.

"It’s a decent stay for the price. The property is starting to show its age and the health club was out of commission during my stay. Included breakfast is good, not exceptional. It’s a short walk to the city center and all the great restaurants and pubs so not bad overall."
