There's only 1 hotel within a 10-kilometre radius of Terong's centre, so you'll need to move faster than a kid chasing an ice cream truck if you want to stay nearby.

In terms of a central location, you won't do better than Homestay Bukit Gantang. It's a fantastic place to chill out after you've eaten, drank and shopped your way through the city centre.

You might like to look into some more places to stay, such as the Blue Star Hotel Kuala Kangsar or the Highway Hotels - Bukit Merah. The former is situated 25 kilometres from central Terong, and the latter is 20 kilometres away. Alternatively, you could travel 17 kilometres away from central Terong to the Sentosa Villa.

But don't just limit your travels to Terong. Take some extra time to explore some of the spectacular sights and activities that the wider Perak region has to offer. Sharpen your landscape photography game by visiting some of Perak's gorgeous rural landscapes and beaches. Traditional villages and temples are a few more tourist hotspots worth whipping out your camera for. Those with a serious appetite for adventure can also go hiking in this corner of Malaysia.

Don't blow through before you've had a squiz at the Zoo Taiping & Night Safari and Ling Nam Temple in Matang. The Casavilla Hotel Taiping and Kavanas Hotel Taiping are just some of the short and long-stay options here. Alternatively, you could stay in Taiping, 20 kilometres to the north of Terong, where you'll find the SSL Traders Hotel and Beverly Hotel. If you're staying in Taiping, set aside a little time to visit Bukit Larut and Burmese Pool.

You'll find some awesome activities in Tanah Rata. The Cameron Highland Butterfly Farm, the Ee Feng Gu Bee Farm and the Time Tunnel Museum are up there with the best. This regional hub is located 80 kilometres east of Terong and has a population of 7,000. Why not also see what's happening at the Raju Hill Strawberry Farm and Kea Farm? Tanah Rata offers accommodation options that should suit most tastes and budgets, such as the Cameron Highlands Resort and Smokehouse Hotel Cameron Highlands.

After sleeping upright for hours, a nice warm bed at the Hillcity Hotel & Condo will be bliss! If that doesn't quite cut it, suss out the White House iHome Ipoh. Both are pretty much on the doorstep of Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, which is 45 kilometres from the centre of town.
