Holidays in Tubok

We hear ya! That plane flying overhead released your inner traveller, right? Then a trip to Tubok might just be the answer! From here, you'll be able to venture off the well-trodden tourist trail and explore the impressive coastal plains, forests, rivers and lakes of North Jeolla.

It's situated 220 kilometres south of the capital of South Korea, Seoul.

Mother Nature's splendour is on show in many places around Tubok. Just 30 kilometres away, Naejangsan National Park is a great place to start. Moak Mountain sits 18 kilometres away and is another nice spot for some peace and quiet.

Are you looking for some electrifying soccer action? Then watch the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors face off with the opposition on their home turf of Jeonju World Cup Stadium, 35 kilometres away in Jeonju.

You'll discover even more just down the road. Imsil, 5 kilometres to the east, is popular for Imsil Cheese Village and Saseondae Tourist Resort & Sculpture Park. Though, if the Geumsansa Temple and the Chimyeongjasan Martyrs Ground sound better to you, go 15 kilometres north from Tubok to Jeollabuk-do.

Heading to Jeonju? This place is 30 kilometres to the north. If you're setting up camp here, grab a map and circle the Gyeonggijeon, the Jeonju Historical Museum and the Jeonju National Museum. Also consider stopping in at the Pungnammun Gate and Jeondong Catholic Church.

Looking for something a bit more involved? For an exciting adventure through the surrounding landscape, try out some tobogganing or mountain climbing.

Get into the winter spirit by trying snowboarding. If you're not ready to take off your coat and gloves, also try skiing.

Wander through the region's history museums. They are especially good places to go when the rain starts bucketing down.

If the weather is good, pack up the kids and head outside to experience the surrounding area's open-air museums and gardens.

If you're a history buff, you'll be pleased to hear that there are a number of old towns and fortresses nearby. Step back in time and discover the region's intriguing past.

How about adding some deeper meaning to your trip? Whether you're searching for a spiritual experience or just interested in learning about the local belief system, pay a visit to one or two of the surrounding cathedrals and shrines.

Your eyes shouldn't have all the fun while visiting North Jeolla. Give your taste buds a little attention too by digging into the local food and beverage offerings. After all, you haven't truly experienced a place until you've tasted its flavours.

Do you love your pork? What about beans? Whether you're crazy about them or not, they are two typical ingredients you'll often find in dishes here.

There's always a local recipe or two you must try, and during your time in Tubok, bibimbap (sautéed vegetables on rice) is definitely among them. Jeonju bibimbap (sautéed vegetables on rice) is another traditional recipe that isn't to be missed.

You might be eating yourself into elastic-waisted trousers, but bungeo-ppang (red bean filled pastry) is more than worth it. This favourite dessert will put your taste buds into overdrive with just a glance.

If you've built up a thirst and want to indulge in a glass of amber nectar, we recommend Prime Max. Grab a stool during happy hour, make some new friends and soak up the atmosphere!

Prefer something a bit stronger? You have to try cheongju (rice wine). Ask the bartender if it's good in any mixed drinks or cocktails. If that fails, order up a shot and enjoy it straight!

Want to join in on all the Liberation Day festivities? Mark down the 15th of August in your diary and get ready to let your hair down with the locals!

From Tubok, it's 60 kilometres northwest to Gunsan Airport (KUV). This is the closest airport. Remember to allow yourself extra time to make your way there so you don't miss check-in.
