Been burning the candle at both ends? Desperate for a break and a few quiet nights? Velipoje might just be the ticket. It's set among the coastal plains of Albania — nice and off the beaten track. (We reckon you'll feel so relaxed, you'll be under the covers by sunset!)

From Velipoje venture 65 kilometres north and you'll come to the major metropolis of Podgorica. The busy streets of another great city, Tirana, are located to the southeast, 70 kilometres away.

Is there anything more peaceful than collecting seashells by the water's edge? Make your way to Jaz Beach or Velika Plaza Beach if you're looking for a great day out.

Spend some time relaxing in nature at Shkodra Lake. It sits just 35 kilometres away from Velipoje. Inhale the fresh, clean air and take a few moments to simply slow down.

Sports fans won't be left out in the cold during their stay. Loro Borici Stadium is 25 kilometres away in Shkoder and a fabulous place to get your sporting fix. Remember to check the event schedule to see what's on.

You'll discover even more just down the road. Ulcinj, 14 kilometres to the west, is popular for Mala Plaza and Ulcinj Fortress. Alternatively, if the Statue og Mother Theresa and Museum are more your thing, travel 25 kilometres northwest from Velipoje to Kruta.

Bar, 35 kilometres to the northwest, is worth a day trip. You can use it as a base when swinging by St Nicholas’ Church, the Omerbašića Mosque and Stari Bar. If you'd like more convincing, other nearby attractions include the Port of Bar and Old Olive Tree.

An exciting way to discover the surrounding area is to go on an outdoor adventure. Mountain biking is one of the most popular activities in these parts. But if that's not quite what you're after, there's always hiking.

Rinas International Airport (TIA) is the closest terminal, 55 kilometres to the southeast. Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to reach it.
