Holidays in West Coast

When chucking a sickie becomes your new norm, it's time to break free from the nine-to-five and say hello to West Coast!

It's located 770 kilometres to the southwest of Australia's capital, Canberra.

Does a seaside picnic interest you? Take the family to Somerset Beach or Boat Harbour Beach.

The tranquil sounds of nature are waiting for you at Lake Rosebery. It's situated just 35 kilometres away, so you don't have to be on the road all day. Mount Farrell, 35 kilometres away, is another recommended choice.

The Corinna River Ferry and Bernafai Ridge Conservation Area are quite close to the middle of Corinna, 18 kilometres to the southwest. Eager for more? Waratah, 20 kilometres to the northeast of West Coast, is home to St. James Church and the Mountain Vista Golf Club.

Want to check out the Strahan Golf Club, Strahan Harbour and Botanical Garden Reserve? Head over to Strahan, 65 kilometres to the south, and set up camp. These attractions, as well as Hogarth Falls and Beaches, are all close by.

When it's time to unleash the adventurer within, sign yourself up for some rock climbing. That said, there aren't many better ways to see the beauty of the region's landscapes than with a little mountain climbing.

Too much to choose from? Often the best way to discover a place is to sign on for a tour. The region offers some excellent guided nature walks and wildlife spotting tours.

Sure, it's wonderful to be beside the water, but it's so much more fun to be on or in it! Don't pass up the chance to have a shot at some of the region's awesome watersports, such as rafting and canoeing.

If you were to ask some locals about activities in the surrounding area, they'll often suggest the popular open-air museums.

Delight your taste buds and fill your Instagram feed with mouthwatering pics by tucking into some of the area's top food and drink offerings. Just remember to hashtag 'yum'!

This area has its own cooking style based on local ingredients. You'll discover beef and salmon are two essential elements in many of the meals.

Ask one of the locals what dish best sums up the region and salt and pepper squid will likely be the first thing they point you to. Meat pie is another local classic you'll want to try.

If a life without dessert is not a life you'd like to imagine, you should definitely indulge in some peach melba. This sweet treat tells the story of the area in just one bite.

Are you craving a drink yet? Knock back a glass of Cascade Special Stout, a brew that ought to be on your bucket (or pint) list.

Mixed or straight — the bartender will know the most satisfying way to drink Bundaberg Spiced Rum. If your night out needs something a bit stronger, this is the tipple to order!

Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon and Huon Valley Pinot Noir are wonderful accompaniments to almost any meal. You needn't be a full-blown grape chaser to appreciate a nice glass!

Travelling to the breathtaking Tasmania region is an extraordinary experience, and hopefully it will have touched you with its magic. But alas, all good things must eventually come to an end.

West Coast's closest terminal is Tullamarine Airport (MEL). When you're ready to pack up your bag and hit the skies, go 430 kilometres to the north.

"we stayed in an upstairs terrace room. it was comfortable but definitely old and needing a refresh. It looks as though NRMA owns half the town so maybe they don't have to try too hard given the limited accommodation on offer. overall, am an enjoyable 2 night stay."
