Holidays in Yaya

Armchair travelling not cutting it these days? Want to experience the real thing? Yaya is the perfect place to start. You'll find it among the stunning forests of Kemerovo Oblast. (You might have to step off the beaten path a little, but that's what travelling is all about!)

It lies 3,000 kilometres to the east of Moscow, the capital of Russia.

Izhmorskiy is 13 kilometres to the east and worthy of your time. After more ideas? Sudzhenka, 19 kilometres to the southwest of Yaya, should be on your travel plan.

Want to check out the Tomsk State University, the Tomsk War Memorial and the Culture Museum of Tomsk State University? Make your way to Tomsk, 90 kilometres to the west, and set up base. These sights, as well as the Human Puppet Theater and the Paleontology Museum at Tomsk State University, are all close.

Picnicking and bird watching are two good ways to take a break while soaking up some sunshine.

Walk through the doors of the region's art museums, history museums and theaters and enjoy all that they have to offer.

If the weather looks good, venture out to investigate the surrounding area's open-air museums, street art and gardens.

Delve back in time by paying a visit to some nearby old towns, fortresses and war relics and monuments. When it comes to understanding the significance of these structures, an experienced tour guide can offer some deeper insight.

How about adding some deeper meaning to your journey? Whether you're after a spiritual experience or just interested in learning about the local faith, visit one or two of the surrounding churches and cathedrals.

Credit cards? Check. Passport? Check. But have you brought your appetite? With some fantastic food and drink to gorge on around these parts, it's the one thing you shouldn't forget.

If you're leafing through a menu, there's a strong chance you'll see dishes featuring reindeer meat or rye. They're two ingredients which are often used in the cuisine here.

Do you still have some room in your waistband after the main course? Then place an order for lymonnyk (lemon pie), a tempting sweet treat.

If you've developed a thirst and want to indulge in a glass of amber nectar, we suggest Baltika Premium Lager. Visit during happy hour, make some new pals and drink up!

Try to impress your hosts by learning a handful of expressions in the local tongue. 'Dobroe utro!' may be very useful. It's how you say 'good morning'. 'Skol'ko eto stoit?', which means 'how much is this?', is also rather common.

Planning to be here around the 12th of June? What good luck. On this date, the whole nation joins together to celebrate Russia Day.

"Poka!" doesn't have to mean farewell for good. Why not keep a few Russian rubles for your next holiday?

Yaya's nearest terminal is Tolmachevo Airport (OVB). When it's time to pack your suitcase and hit the tarmac, travel 270 kilometres to the southwest.
