The hotel staff were lovely and accommodating, even letting us check in early. The room whilst only for two of us was very small. You could not sit on the toilet without having to lean a significant amount to not be blocked by the sink next to you. Additionally, the toilet had a leaking problem where the floor became soaked no matter how much we tried to dry it out. Most of all, the slanting mattress was the biggest issue. The double bed we had was in fact two singles pushed together with a double mattress topper. The single mattresses constantly, regardless of effort to keep together, constantly came apart making sleeping very uncomfortable and back aching. Other than these inconveniences the stay was lovely and we had a great time.

Good: Safe area. Friendly staff. Tram runs right outside. Good bars and restaurants within walking distance. Bad: bar not open at hotel. Basement room a bit dark; if i were to book again, i would get a room on the upper floors.

Weekend break in Amsterdam
Booked a single room for a two-night weekend stay. The room is small but perfectly comfortable for a solo traveller, and there are plenty of clever little shelves and storage, plus everything you'd expect from a decent hotel (TV, Nespresso machine, even a complimentary bottle of water). I actually really liked it. Bathroom was also small and perhaps just a little too much so, with not much space to dry after shower etc. But again it did the job; walk-in shower with curtain, hairdryer, couple of shelves and two hooks on the door. Staff were very friendly on check-in and check-out. I didn't have breakfast so can't comment (only because I was meeting friends elsewhere for breakfast). Apparently they do bike hire too but again I didn't use it. Location was about 20 mins walk from the centre, Centraal station etc, and a pleasant enough walk day and night. I would definitely recommend the Lancaster and would stay there again.

Although the hotel had a pretty nice and modern check-in/out system, and staff was friendly, I found it a bit disappointing for a four star. There were gummies on the floor of the room, and the pillows were dirty inside. The bathroom was terribly small and crowded and the room was so so cold. Even though I was showed how to increase the heating in the room on the second day, it was still so cold over night. On a brighter side, you can do the check-in online before you arrive, and it’s next to the tram and the zoo. There was a mini-fridge, safe, kettle, hairdryer, etc.

This is a friendly place in a university part of town. Good eateries locally and a really positive feel in the area and close to metro and tram. You can walk into town in 20-30 mins. I stayed for a week for work and found it a friendly place.

Location was very good for the hart of Amsterdam rooms had a nice feel about them nice and cosy reception had a welcoming feel about it staff where helpful I would definitely return to the same hotel. I would like breakfast to serve poached eggs which was unfortunate how overall great hotel

I was disappointed that my room was in the basement and all I could see outside was a wall. The facility are very basic. A coffee machine but no milk and in the foyer a vending machine for snacks. The staff were very friendly and the room was clean.

This was my partners first time away and the hotel was 10/10, every problem we had was solved easy and the staff were lovely and was happy to help with everything. The location was perfect and could easily access town centre either by tram or walking. The room was clean everyday and the peacefulness of the hotel and location was amazing. If we ever come back to Amsterdam this hotel is where we will be staying. Thankyou so much to staff for making my partners first trip so amazing and definitely will be coming back soon :)

The location of the hotel and its surrounding area were beautiful. It wasn’t too busy or too quiet and the journey to the centre is quick whether you’re walking or on a bike and loads of restaurants and cafes nearby. We were given a room in the basement which wasn’t great at all and such a shame because the view was a selling point for the hotel. It should be made clear that you could potentially get basement room. I asked to swap but unfortunately was told there were no rooms available. There was very little natural light let into the room and the view was of pebbles and stones. Guests that are made to stay in the basement should get a voucher for the restaurant or a complimentary drink at the bar. Luckily we were out most of the day. Loved that you could rent bikes from the hotel! So convenient but make sure you are sent the bike rental policy and physically shown how to use the bike before setting off.
