Say goodbye to adulting for a bit. It's time to skip to that crazy good part of your life where you explore Tokyo! This buzzing city is crammed with surprises, and you'll find plenty of them hiding in neighhourhoods like Asakusa. The capital of Japan is home to some 8,300,000 people. Don't be scared to head out and meet some of them! Once you've jumped off the plane at Haneda Airport and pulled your suitcase from the carousel, Asakusa will be a commute of 19 kilometres to the north. From the city's centre, it's 6 kilometres to the northeast.

With a great deal of the city's best attractions nearby, Asakusa is a sightseer's paradise. From Tokyo Tower to Tokyo Sky Tree, you won't run out of things to keep you entertained. You should also drop by the Sensoji Temple and Tokyo Imperial Palace. For a new perspective on Tokyo, take off to Kitchen Town and Taito, close-by neighbourhoods that are definitely worth a peek.

Just can't wait to lay your eyes on Meiji Jingu Shrine? Found just 10 kilometres to the southwest, it won't be hard getting to this well-known attraction from Asakusa.

Feeling a little restless in Asakusa? Venture outside its boundaries and explore Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and Tsukiji Fish Market, two terrific attractions in the centre of Tokyo. Yasukuni Shrine and the Tokyo National Museum are two more of the area's greatest draw cards.

Fukagawa Tokyo Modern Kan, Yoshidaya, the Japan Sake Center and Ippin Tsubaya are ideal for those travelling without kids.

Call on some cultural attractions to get a feel for the heart and soul of the area. The SCAI the Bathhouse, the Tokyo Wonder Site, the Origami Kaikan and Tokyo Gallery are recommended stops.

Occasionally an artwork can affect you so much that you have to learn more about it. See if the staff can give you some information about the pieces at the Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Museum of Western Art, the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum and the Asakura Choso Museum.

Look into the glass cabinets and learn about the objects on display as you meander through the engaging collections of the Tokyo National Science Museum, Bridgestone Museum of Art, the Kanto Earthquake Memorial Museum and the Taiko Drum Museum.

Nothing beats the feeling of excitement when a show is about to start. Watch the curtains go up at the Kabuki-za Theatre, the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, the Sumida Triphony Hall and the Imperial Garden Theatre.

Children can be wonderful travel buddies, particularly if you go to the right places! For a memorable family day out, take a trip to Akihabara Electric Town, the Tokyo National Diet Library, Sumida Aquarium and the Japan Mint Tokyo Museum.

Young ones can get sick of sightseeing. Put smiles back on their faces with a few hours at one of the area's fun-filled family attractions. Hanayashiki Amusement Park, Kiba Park, Arakawa Yuen and Sarueonshi Park are well worth checking out.

Get outdoors and enjoy the landscapes at the East Garden, the Koishikawa Korakuen Garden, the Kyu Iwasaki-tei Gardens and Rokuryu Kosen.

Put on some comfortable shoes and explore the close-by natural reserves, such as the Chinzan-so Garden, the University of Tokyo Botanical Garden and the Koishikawa Botanical Garden.

An appealing feature of this place is its nearby public parks. In the midst of the hustle and bustle, you won't struggle to find somewhere to relax and read a book. Ueno Park, Rikugi-en Garden, Hibiya-koen and Sumida Park are great options.

A holiday is the ideal time to splash out a bit and grab yourself a few treats. Be sure to drop into Mitsukoshi, LaLaport Toyosu Mall, Urayasu Fish Market and Mandarake Complex!

The Edo-Tokyo Museum, National Diet Building, Imperial Palace Garden and Nijubashi have so many stories to tell. History nerd or not, you'll be sure to learn something at these weathered, old sites.

The Asakusa Shrine, St. Mary's Cathedral, the Tsukiji Hongan-ji Temple and Hakusan Shrine offer travellers an opportunity to see the region's religious side.
