Holiday In Bogota

It’s time to go on holiday to Bogotá or bust! Put down the sandwich and get your arse away from that desk.

You’re just a few clicks away from colourful city streets, bold flavours and lush landscapes. Once the site of a major gold rush, Bogotá boasts a vibrant street art scene that makes even 24 carats seem a little dull. Wander through cobblestoned squares or hike to the top or Monserrate Mountain—either way, it’s gorgeous. We haven’t even gotten to the food, but you’ll need to book one of our Bogotá holiday packages and taste for yourself! ¡Vamanos!

Things to Do in Bogotá

Start your holiday in Bogotá at the very top. Monserrate Mountain looks out over the city centre from the east side of town. Once you reach the summit, you can catch your breath at a 17th-century church and reward your efforts with treats from local cafes and shops. (Psst! If you aren’t outdoorsy, you can catch the air tram instead.) Wanna keep kicking it with Mother Nature? Get behind the wheel of one of our Bogotá car hire deals and drive northeast to Laguna de Guatavita. Rumour has it this was the site of the legend of El Dorado. No one has found piles of gold at the bottom, but a swim would still be nice. If you think all that glitters is not gold, then spend an arvo at the Museo del Oro—Museum of Gold—and think again. For a splash of more colour, walk down the alleyway where the really, really old meets new on Callejon del Embudo—Bogotá’s oldest and narrowest stone street. On both sides you’ll find generations of brilliant street art that feels more like an avant-garde gallery than an ancient food path.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

It’s hard to take a Bogotá holiday without bringing home heaps of warm woollen ponchos and woven hats and slippers. Look in the city centre for handmade goods that will set your look apart from your friends back home. For open-air vibes and flea market finds, go uptown to Mercado de las Pulgas de Usaquen and wander between vendors surrounded by colonial architecture.

You won’t go hungry on any street, in any district of Bogotá. Trust us: Colombians take food very seriously. One look at your plate of golden Arroz con Pollo and you’ll agree that around here, food is art. Other must-eat dishes include bistec a caballo, a thin steak in onion gravy with a fried egg—yum—and fried empanadas—double yum.

The sun’s gone down, so it’s time to bust a move in Bogotá! The city is divided into several districts, each with their own spin on late-night shenanigans. Here, the Zona Rosa can make you blush—it’s where you’ll find swanky bars and salsa dancing clubs open late into the night. La Candelaria, the Old City, has nightlife as modern as it comes, with bars and clubs to catch expats and travellers after a long day of exploring.
