Near to the interstate and easy to find. Checking in after hours was easy, they leave an envelope with the key in a box next to the office door. Being from the city, I was skeptical of this practice but it was totally fine! We stayed in the Commissary, which is one of two original side buildings. The inside was all modern and nicely done. We brought our dog and she enjoyed walking all around the grounds like it was her house! Even at midnight while letting the dog out in the dark I felt completely safe.
The homecooked breakfast each morning was delicious! The tour of the house was informative and interesting. I love antique furniture and was not disappointed! Everything was so detailed and beautiful.
And, having family members with mobility issues, it was refreshing to see they have installed a lift to access the 1st floor of the main house, which is where the breakfast is served, so everyone can be included. There is also a cottage with a ramp. It was nice to see.
If ever in the area again we would definitely stay again. It would be a good jumping off location for a trip to Alexandria without staying in the city!
