In India on our own for the first time, we were pretty terrified of what we might get in booking a hostel online - especially when we got into the cab at the Delhi Airport and drove around for two hours because the driver didn't know where it was and didn't speak English! Fortunately, the relief of a lifetime came when we were cordially greeted by the hotel manager Donald and the few dedicated staff at the Hotel Palace Sarthak. The rooms were clean to basic Western standards, WiFi was available on request (very important as an online business owner), and although the food was only available through room service so we never saw the kitchen, it was delicious and incredibly affordable. Of course, we tipped heavily (two dollars can be a day's wage in India, so we would happily hand out 100 rupees for any task) and were taken incredibly good care of. My partner also got sick and unfortunately had to spend a couple days in hospital on an IV drip, and Donald and the hotel were 100% there for us - they stored our excess luggage, didn't charge us anything extra at all, and even came and visited my partner in hospital to see how he was doing. The only qualm I had was with the location, which is a sort of marketplace dirt roads sort of suburb a little bit away from the Westernised area of Delhi - but it held its delights. Overall, an excellent service that, if I ever came to visit India again, I wouldn't hesitate for a second.
