Holidays in Ekamai

FOMO, wanderlust, itchy feet. Whatever you like to call it, there's only one way to fix it — take off to Ekamai. No matter what type of incredible adventure you're craving, this Bangkok neighbourhood has lots going for it. Want to meet some locals? With around 5,100,000 people calling the capital of Thailand home, you'll have plenty of chances. After touching down and picking up your suitcase at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, your taxi will need to travel 18 kilometres west to arrive in Ekamai. From the city centre, it's a drive of 6 kilometres to the east.

Ekamai is a sightseer's paradise. A good number of the city's top attractions are scattered near this unique neighbourhood, including Siam Square and Jim Thompson House. After taking a look at those, you'll want to continue on to Chatuchak Weekend Market and Patpong Night Market. A great way to better understand this city is to wander around some of its neighbourhoods. So why not go to nearby Wattana and Thonglor and explore their unique charms?

Among the first recommendations in your guidebook will no doubt be Grand Palace. So what's the hold up? This world-renowned attraction is just 5 kilometres from the downtown area.

The city centre also offers a range of excellent sights to appreciate, such as Khao San Road and Pratunam Market. Alternatively, have a wander around the Wat Saket and the Wat Suthat.

The area's cultural sites, such as the Thailand Creative & Design Center, the Teo+Namfah Gallery, the Tadu Contemporary Art and the H Gallery, have to be seen!

From interactive displays to impressive objects and artefacts, museums have something to keep everyone happy. If the weather turns nasty, why not take yourself over to the Suan Pakkard Palace, Siam Society & Ban Kamthieng, the Bangkok Doll Factory & Museum and the Museum of Counterfeit Goods?

What better way to end a day's activities than with a few drinks and a show? Check the programme guides at the Siam Niramit Bangkok and the Aksra Theatre.

Kids tend to have fun in the most unusual locations. Delight them with trips to Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World, the Madam Tussaud’s, the AIS 4DX Theater and the Madame Tussauds Bangkok.

Young kids have bucketloads of energy. Luckily enough, there are a few places close by where they can blow off some steam. Dinosaur Planet, The Escape Hunt Experience and KidZania Bangkok are some well-known options.

Switch off your phone, disengage from the stresses of the modern world and enjoy the serenity of the outdoors at Khlong Saen Saep and Klongs.

Something unique about this place is its nearby green spaces. In the midst of all the activity, there are plenty of places to stretch out in the grass. Lumpini Park, Benjakiti Park, Benjasiri Park and Santiphap Park are some good options.

Buy the basics or search for a few unique mementos. You can grab all you need at MBK Center, Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Pantip Plaza.

The Victory Monument, Baiyoke Tower II, Saphan Huachang Pier and the Ban Kamthieng Museum have many stories to tell. History buff or not, you'll certainly find out something at these age-old sites.

Find out more about the region's spiritual dimensions at Erawan Shrine, the Ganesha Shrine, Trimurti Shrine and Ratchaprasong Intersection Shrines. These sites are worth visiting whether you're a religious person or not.

Dress up in red and yellow, take off to Rajamangala Stadium and cheer on the Thailand National Team. A visit to this venue is a must for any true soccer fan!
