Throw in your job, buy a ticket, fall in love, never come back. You don't need to do all those things, but one you should do is pay for that ticket to Gaobeidian. One of the many 'hoods of Beijing, it's a great base for discovering everything this city has to offer. Want to hang out with the locals? With around 11,700,000 people calling the capital of China home, you'll have plenty of chances. Gaobeidian is 12 kilometres east of the city's centre. If you're arriving in Nanyuan Airport, hurl your suitcase in the boot of a taxi and make your way 18 kilometres northeast.
A good deal of this city's top sights are sprinkled near Gaobeidian, and the Temple of Heaven and the CCTV Headquarters are two of the most outstanding. The must-see sights of the Lama Temple and Wangfujing Street are also waiting for you.
