Holidays in Ginza

Fernweh, FOMO, wanderlust. Whatever you call it, there's only one way to solve it — make your way to Ginza. No matter what sort of incredible adventures you want to have, this Tokyo neighbourhood has lots going for it. The capital of Japan is home to some 8,300,000 people. Don't be scared to get out and meet some of them! After touching down and collecting your bags at Haneda Airport, your ride will travel 14 kilometres north to take you to Ginza. From the centre of the city, it's a distance of 0.7 kilometres to the southeast.

With a good deal of the city's leading attractions nearby, Ginza is a sightseer's dream. From Tokyo Tower to Tokyo Sky Tree, there's lots to keep visitors on the go. You should also make sure to experience the Sensoji Temple and Tokyo Imperial Palace. While you're in town, think about exploring a few other neighbourhoods to experience more of what Tokyo offers. Namiki-Dori and Ginzanishi are good suggestions that are close by.

Of course, among the first stops you'll want to make is Meiji Jingu Shrine. This leading attraction is situated just 6 kilometres west of Ginza.

The city centre also boasts a range of excellent sights to feast your eyes upon, such as Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and Tsukiji Fish Market. Alternatively, have a look around Yasukuni Shrine and the Tokyo National Museum.

Leave the kids with a babysitter and head out for some fun at Nakajima Teahouse, Shinjuku I Land, Omoide Yokocho and Fukagawa Tokyo Modern Kan.

Discover more about the cultural scene at the National Art Center Tokyo, the Laforet Museum, the Design Festa Gallery and the Fujifilm Square.

Not much stills the mind and stirs the imagination like an afternoon in a gallery. Take the chance to reflect as you study the thought-provoking works on display at the Mori Art Museum, the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, the Nezu Art Museum and the Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art.

Look into the glass cabinets and learn about the artefacts on display as you wander through the fascinating collections of the Tokyo National Science Museum, the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, Bridgestone Museum of Art and the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation.

One of the yardsticks of a great show tends to be the amount of applause when it's finished. Come and join in the cheers at the Kabuki-za Theatre, Suntory Hall, the Bunkamura and NHK Hall.

Kids can often have the best time in the most unlikely places. Delight them with trips to Akihabara Electric Town, Shibuya Crossing, the Tokyo National Diet Library and Sumida Aquarium.

If you're holidaying with the kids, they'll love a visit to one of the close by fun-filled attractions. Joypolis, Hanayashiki Amusement Park, Meiji-jingu Gaien Ice Skating Rink and National Children’s Castle are the ideal places for them to burn off a bit of steam.

The East Garden, the Koishikawa Korakuen Garden, the Happoen Garden and the Kyu Iwasaki-tei Gardens are ideal places for nature buffs to get out into the fresh air.

Get some exercise at the Chinzan-so Garden, the Institute for Nature Study, the Yumenoshima Tropical Greenhouse Dome and the University of Tokyo Botanical Garden. A long hike through any one of these leafy reserves will reinvigorate your senses.

If the fast-paced energy of city life is becoming too much, head to one of the nearby green spaces. Yoyogi Park, Ueno Park, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden and Hibiya-koen are wonderful places to take some time out.

A holiday is a splendid opportunity to splash your cash and grab yourself some knickknacks. Don't forget to swing by Mitsukoshi, Omotesando Hills, Venus Fort and Shinjuku Isetan!

The surrounding heritage places will provide you with a glimpse into the area's fascinating past. The Edo-Tokyo Museum, National Diet Building, Imperial Palace Garden and the Waseda University are not to be missed.

Whatever your faith, it's worth visiting the Asakusa Shrine, St. Mary's Cathedral, the Zojoji Temple and Hanazono Shrine.

Hotels in Ginza

Your ideal Ginza hotel awaits on lastminute.com.au. Presently, there are 531 places to pick from.

If you'd rather spend money on experiences than on a hotel, the Khaosan World Asakusa Ryokan and the Hotel Kaminarimon are two places you should check out. Or perhaps you'd rather treat yourself in more luxurious surrounds? Then let the professional staff at The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo and the Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi take care of your every need.

If you're only in town for a couple of nights, why not get a room near Tokyo Tower? The Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills - a concept by Hyatt, 1 kilometre away, and The Prince Park Tower Tokyo, 0.6 kilometres away, are about as close as you'll be able to get to this iconic attraction.

"Our second or third time staying in this chain. It’s a mid range family/tourist friendly hotel with multiple bed options.
