A very quirky hotel steeped in history. The recent new owners are wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. You really feel at home here. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast is hearty. Evening meal not always available which perhaps should be communicated to guests. However the meal we had in the quirky Garden Room was superb. There is a burger van in the hotel car park with food cooked by James the hotel manager. This hotel is different and has a charm and a uniqueness which must be experienced. Thank you James and Susan and staff for a perfect 4 days at the Anchor Hotel. We will return !

Lovely room. Very hospitable hosts and other pleasant guests. Bit of a problem with hot water but hosts very quickly addressed it. Credit to the new owners, they did everything they could to make us welcome. Thank you.
Cheap and cheerful. We read reviews so didn’t eat there except breakfast which was basic. On both days we were in the restaurant for 5 minutes before anyone took an order

Had an enjoyable weekend away with my wife staff nice and friendly
Had a great stay at The Anchor Hotel. Owner James and his wife were very accommodating throughout my stay. The hotel was in a lovely setting, by the river and is steeped in history, being a Court house amongst other things. James the owner is very knowledgeable about this and is happy to talk about it. I will definitely be staying agai abd would highly recommend.
Very poor value for money. Damp rooms with paint peeling & towels feeling damp. We were told it's what to expect from a very old property. So much needs to be done there. We should have asked to see the rooms first before paying.
I moved rooms once as the first wasn't finished & smelt of cigarettes. (Not the odour from the scent sticks!
We were assured there would be an evening meal but told at 7.30 there was nothing.
I would have given it 1 star but the lady cooking breakfast was lovely & made a really nice scrambled egg.

Unexpected find
Intriguing spot Haydon Bridge and if you want to try it out the Anchor is the perfect spot to stop off. The hosts were warm and welcoming and nothing was too small to help with. Room was clean, smart and beautiful view of the river ask for this. Food was good pub grub, my Chilli beef was better than average for a pub. Would go back.
It's a really old building, full of character.
The hosts are lovely, having been there only a short time, they have created a charming dining room on the first floor, filled with light.
The breakfasts were delicious, individually prepared. We really enjoyed our stay.
Pleasant staff but very tired hotel room in need of modernization. Strange breakfast; everything looked like it had been in the deep fat fryer - including the bacon! Could hear adjacent occupant snoring the walls were so thin.
The Property requires updating and falls very short on general facilities that you would expect. Staff were very helpful but the property and facilities let them down.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Needs a revamp everywhere.
Tried the Anchor for the first time. Evening meal was very poor. Cold chips tiny portion of peas and over done scampi. Breakfast was help yourself with the cooked items under a hot light tray server, but all items where not hot and eggs were like rubber so gave them a miss. Decor was very tired. Won’t go there again.

Friendly place.
The hotel is a little tired but the new Landlord is hopeful of new renovations. The staff are very friendly and a pleasure to talk to. I had a comfortable stay. Great breakfast.
The Anchor Hotel was terrific in every way. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Jim was a perfect and accommodating host and 600 year old hotel/pub is classic!! The setting on the River with the ancient bridge was spectacular. In total we had a wonderful stay! Craig
Pub has amazing riverside patios we had a drink then went to check in . The bar was very busy with one girl serving and doing her best . She needed help to check us in as she did not know what room to allocate but could not raise the boss as he was in bed at 4pm once she raised him he did not come down to help her and she finally got us checked in . The room was not in good condition with the walls filled in and painted different shades . The carpet was not that clean . Bedding was clean . At 730am we were woke by the fire alarm and evacuated the building but was no staff on site to advise . After about 10 minutes in the car park a guy arrived who had nipped out to the coop and turned off alarm no apology. Breakfast was surprisingly good .
It was one night, the staff and owner are lovely and friendly and really want to do a good job. But the hotel is in dire need of investment and a good clean. The owner is lovely but seems like a fish out of water in this hotel. Does not feel like he has much experience in the hotel industry, can’t see this hotel surviving the winter.
