Holidays in Hutai

Like a big glass of wine on a Friday arvo, travel is always a good idea. So why not pack your well-worn bags and enjoy a taste of Hutai, Shanghai? This popular city has a population of around 22,300,000 people, as well as stacks of adventures to cross off your bucket list. You'll find Hutai 5 kilometres northwest of downtown Shanghai. From Hongqiao International Airport, it's 11 kilometres to the northeast.

With a great deal of the city's top sights nearby, Hutai is heaven for sightseers. From the Bund to the Jingan Temple, there's lots to keep visitors on the move. You should also take a look around Jin Mao Tower and Xintiandi. While you're here, think about visiting other neighbourhoods to see more of what Shanghai has to offer. Daning Lingshi Park and Pengpu are good suggestions that are within close reach.

Getting cabin fever in Hutai? Get out and explore French Concession and Nanjing Road Shopping District, two terrific attractions in the centre of Shanghai. To get an even better feel for the area, also call in at the Shanghai Museum and Oriental Pearl Tower.

Leave the little ones with a babysitter and have some grown-up fun at Paramount, Three on the Bund, Huxinting Tea House and Yuyintang.

Hoping to get a taste of the cultural scene? Go to M50 Arts Community, the Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre, the Hong Merchant Gallery and the James Cohan.

While you can easily see a great variety of art on your computer these days, there's nothing quite like looking at the real thing. Immerse yourself in the area's creative side by visiting the MOCA Shanghai, the Leo Gallery, the Shanghai Brush & Ink Museum and the Shanghai Hongmiao Art.

If you find yourself stuck with nasty weather, take cover at the Shanghai Museum of Arts and Crafts, the Shanghai Railway Museum, the Lu Xun Museum and the Shanghai Post Museum. The marvellous displays will be sure to keep your mind active and your body dry!

You can't quite beat the feeling of excitement when a live show is about to commence. Take your seat and watch the curtains rise at the Shanghai Grand Theatre, the Shanghai Acrobatic Theatre, the Lyceum Theatre and ERA Acrobats.

There's nothing quite like travelling with sprightly kids to keep you young in spirit. Join them on an adventure to Old Chinese City, the Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, Shanghai Ocean Aquarium and the Shanghai Public Library.

Kids have a lot of energy. Luckily, there are a handful of places nearby where they can blow off some steam. Changfeng Ocean Park and Jǐnjiāng Amusement Park are some popular options.

The Yu Yuan Garden, the Yuyuan Garden, the Mandarin Garden and Jing'an Sculputure Park are perfect spots for nature buffs to enjoy the outdoors.

Whether you're itching to take a relaxing stroll or hang out with some friends, the nearby green spaces are lovely places to be. Choose from either Pudong Riverside Promenade and Park, Zhongshan Park, Jing An Park and Fuxing Park.

Quite often, the best way to get the feel of a new place is by strolling around the shops. Make sure you call in to Westgate Mall, Plaza 66, Super Brand Mall and Yuyuan Bazaar.

Customs House, Shanghai Times Square, the Shanghai Municipal History Museum and Brilliance Shimao International Plaza can give you a glimpse into the area's past.

The Jade Buddha Temple, the City God Temple, Russian Orthodox Mission Church and St. Nicholas Church offer vacationers a great chance to discover the region's religious side.

Are you mad for soccer? Then make sure you take some blue and red with you to cheer on the Shanghai Shenhua FC at Hongkou Football Stadium.
