To begin with the positives, the location of this hotel is excellent, being a short walk from People’s Square Station and Nanjing Pedestrian Street. The layout and overall comfort of the room is adequate.
However, the negatives of our experience far outweigh the positives. First, the front desk staff is a combination of poorly trained and inexperienced, struggling with most questions - especially in English. Responding to simple requests such as “may I have another room key” throws them for a loop. This is presumably why the check-in takes painfully long.
Next, the room itself was in very poor condition. Between significant mould in the bathroom to worn out and unusable outlets/switches, a serious renovation was needed over a year ago. When I spoke to the front desk about this issue they showed me another room with identical issues, and then even another one which they were certain did not have the issue (it did).
Finally, I booked what Expedia and the Hilton website refer to as a “High Floor” Deluxe Suite. We were then placed on the 34th floor, which I later learned was on the bottom third of the building. When I asked the front desk about it they simply shrugged it off as being the name of the room, and to sort of get over it.
Overall, my experience at this hotel was very poor. While management did make efforts to accommodate my party, they all fell short. Given the amount of properties in this price range and similar location, I won’t be recommending it.
