Its been 3 years since i last stayed in this hotel..In this time it has gone downhill fast,,Although close and walking distace to all tourist attractions, their standards have slipped dramatically..I stayed for 4 days, not once was there any house keeping done,no sheets changed ot beds made,no towels replaced..TV worked or didnt work..sheets were shabby and torn in places..
Nice, friendly staff, and Serene was convenient but cramped and noisy. I mistakenly chose an economy room on the third floor. But the room was so narrow that I had to climb onto the bed from the bottom to get into it. The noise from the street below (close to Istiklal Cad) was loud and went in into the small hours. I was also bitten by mosquitos. I'm used to economical hotels but can't recommend this one. It could only suit students who don't go to bed early. I have stayed in cheaper accommodation in Istanbul which has been far better.
Overall it was good hotel and the most amazing thing was location because it's right in between the Istiklal street. But a major problem we had is to find it by own. It took 1:30 hours to find it because it's inside streets.
I went to serene with a friend and booked a double room. To our luck we got the room with the balcony (which I highly recommend) that looks down on all the busy streets of the shopping streets in taksim. The hotel was lovely, I had no issues whilst I stayed. The only hitch might be that because it's right in the middle of all the commotion from shoppers around taksim and street entertainment right outside the hotel it doesn't quiet down until quite late. If you're looking for a calm and quiet stay in istanbul this might not be the hotel for you, but its convinience to the bars around and transport was a great option for me.
Difficult to find the hotel. We took 2 hours to find the hotel as it is located in a small alley with no sign board on the main road. The room is very small.
good hotel in great location. downside it is a bit hard to find as there is no clear signage. It took us more than 30 mnts wandering around to search for the hotel.
My parents stayed in same hotel and the staff was really helpful - even arranged upgrade on lower floor with no extra charge. The room was amazing - best it could be - overlooking Galata Square on Istiklal - so mornings having cofee and tea with that view - priceless! Rooms are nicely decorated, nice sized and bathrooms as well. Bed is comfy and sheets clean. Staff is helpful and organized pickup to the airport. The position of hotel is perfect. The only flaw is the maintenance of hotel facilities - could be better.
The beds were clean as well as the sheets. The music from the next door bars was heard and played till 6am. I mean loud. The carpets were stained and the rooms smelled of mildew and tobbaco. The staff was not friendly at all. This hotel is overpriced.
This hotel was ideal for our five nights in Istanbul. The location couldn't be better and allowed us to walk almost everywhere.
The room was the size I expected for the money and was very clean. The bathroom was very nice indeed.
The hotel employees were really friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
I'd read that it was very noisy when I booked but hadn't realised just how noisy it would be. For the first two nights it was difficult to sleep due to the noise from a club a couple of doors down.
However, on the third night, we realised that a window had been slightly open and once we'd closed it, the noise was much more bearable. I would still say that if you want a restful night this might not be the hotel for you. However, if you're attracted to the local nightlife and will be out until late at night or early the next day, you probably won't even notice.
We were back at just before midnight most nights and did notice the noise. Having said that, I would definitely consider staying here again as it was such great value and in an absolutely perfect location.
Hotel is very centrally located, myriads of restaurants are just around the corner. Shopping, hammam etc. are quite nearby. The economy rooms are tiny, but ok if you don't plan to spend your holiday in the hotel. You need to climb stairs so this is not for people with problems moving around. To reach the historical sites you'll need to walk ~1km to the tram. They tried to charge me directly (claiming they're having problems getting the payment from hotels.com), but the problem was solved the next day, after I told them I'd contact hotels.com. All in all the staff was very helpful.
Over weekend trip to Istanbul. Booked Serene hotel. Didn't regret it. Very good - one of the best - quality/price ratio. Of course you are in the middle of the touristic area. Don't forget it as you book the hotel.
At first place I would like to thank Orhan - administrator on the reception of Serene hotel - for his very friendly and professional help. He was always very polite and ready to help. Thank you, Orhan!
Recommend this hotel to anyone, but not for the families with babies - because of 24 hours actions (which is very interesting, but not for babies) on the central street outside of the hotel.
