Holidays in Jesmond

Sure, you can stick with simply exploring the centre of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, but you'd be missing out! To get a good feel for the city (and avoid any FOMO), take a detour to Jesmond — a neighbourhood located 2 kilometres to the north. Newcastle International Airport is the nearest airport and the starting point for your visit. To get to this neighbourhood from here, hail a taxi, drive southeast for 8 kilometres and enjoy the ride!

Jesmond is a wonderland for sightseers. A range of the city's attractions are scattered near this appealing neighbourhood, including Quayside and Castle Keep. The must-see sights of Gateshead Millennium Bridge and Tyne Bridge are also at your fingertips. For another perspective on Newcastle-upon-Tyne, take off to Gosforth and Northumberland Street, close-by neighbourhoods just waiting to be explored.

Two excellent sights that should be on every traveller's sightseeing list are the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and the Grey's Monument. You'll discover both in the city centre.

Like to give the noggin a workout? The Blue Carpet, the Newcastle-upon-Tyne Arts Centre, System and the Baltic Flour Mills are some leading cultural sites.

Sometimes it's the star exhibits that stand out. Other times it's a small object that's been hidden in a shadowy corner. Keep a lookout for both at the Newcastle-upon-Tyne Discovery Museum, The Shefton Museum and Biscuit Factory.

What nicer way to finish a day's sightseeing than with dinner and some entertainment? Check the programme at Sage Gateshead, the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre, the Newcastle-upon-Tyne Theatre Royal and the O2 Academy Newcastle.

How about a game of golf? Get on a pair of khaki slacks, shine your clubs and get set to do your best Nick Faldo impression at the City of Newcastle Golf Club and the Newcastle United Golf Club.

Locating kid-friendly entertainment is often number one on the list when going on holiday with the family. Don't miss the Seven Stories, the Newcastle-upon-Tyne Central Library and The Gate.

Whether you're in the mood to kick off your shoes and sit under a tree or play a game of Frisbee with your friends, the nearby green spaces are great places to be. Take your pick from Saltwell Park, Exhibition Park, Jesmond Dene Park and Rising Sun Country Park.

A holiday is the perfect opportunity to hit up the shops and grab yourself some knickknacks. Don't forget to stroll through metrocentre, Central Arcade and Eldon Square Shopping Centre!

Learn more about the past at a few of the area's time-weathered sites, such as Segedunum Roman Fort, the Great North Museum-Hancock, Alderman Fenwick's House and the Trinity Maritime Centre.

Regardless of your religious beliefs, it's worth checking out Newcastle-upon-Tyne St. Mary's Cathedral, Newcastle-upon-Tyne St. Nicholas' Cathedral, All Saints Church and the ISKCON Newcastle.

Whether you're wanting to attend a home game with the Gateshead Thunder or the Gateshead F.C. or boogie at a concert, Gateshead International Stadium is the place for entertainment.

Good hotel for the price, friendly staff
"Good sized comfortable triple room, great value for the price. The staff were helpful and friendly. There is a sports bar on the ground floor but it wasn't too noisy to cause us a problem ..."
