Holidays in Kabukicho

Do you look at every travel deal that hits your inbox? Find yourself obsessively stalking travel hashtags? It's time for an adventure and Kabukicho, a neighbourhood in Tokyo, is calling your name. The capital of Japan is home to some 8,300,000 people and a great place to really experience the nation's history and culture. After hitting the tarmac and collecting your suitcase at Haneda Airport, your taxi will need to travel 18 kilometres northwest to reach Kabukicho. From the city centre, it's a commute of 6 kilometres to the northwest.

A good deal of this city's leading sights are sprinkled near Kabukicho, and Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Sky Tree are some of the most outstanding. You should also visit the Sensoji Temple and Tokyo Imperial Palace. A brilliant way to immerse yourself in this city is to wander around a few of its neighbourhoods. So why not swing by nearby Golden Gai and Shinjuku and discover their unique charms?

Seeing world-famous sights such as Meiji Jingu Shrine is one of the main reasons many of us travel. If you're basing yourself in Kabukicho, it's easy to reach. It sits just 2 kilometres to the south.

If you're in the mood for browsing a few of the highlights in the city centre, be sure to include Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and Tsukiji Fish Market. You can't head back to your hotel without stopping by Yasukuni Shrine and the Tokyo National Museum as well.

Need a break from the kids? Organise a babysitter and go to Nakajima Teahouse, Shinjuku I Land, Omoide Yokocho and the Japan Sake Center.

Deepen your understanding of the area at the National Art Center Tokyo, the Laforet Museum, the Design Festa Gallery and the Fujifilm Square. These cultural attractions are not to be missed!

While you can easily see a great variety of art on the web these days, there's nothing quite like experiencing the real thing. Explore the area's creative side at the Mori Art Museum, the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, the Nezu Art Museum and the National Museum of Western Art.

Sometimes it's the most talked about exhibits that excite us the most. Other times it's a neglected treasure sitting in a dimly lit corner. Keep an eye out for both at the Tokyo National Science Museum, the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, Bridgestone Museum of Art and the Japanese Sword Museum.

You can't quite beat the feeling of anticipation when a live show is about to commence. Take your seat and wait for the curtains to rise at the Kabuki-za Theatre, Suntory Hall, the Bunkamura and the New National Theatre Tokyo.

Children are often marvellous travel buddies, particularly if you take them to fun places! For a memorable family outing, head to Akihabara Electric Town, Shibuya Crossing, Sunshine Aquarium and the Tokyo National Diet Library.

No matter how much you think you know about them, the critters at the Ueno Zoo and Higashiitabashi Park Children's Zoo still have a lot of surprises up their sleeves.

Namco Namja Town, Meiji-jingu Gaien Ice Skating Rink, National Children’s Castle and J-World Tokyo are some awesome places to take the little ones for an action-packed day of adventure.

The East Garden, the Koishikawa Korakuen Garden, the Happoen Garden and the Kyu Iwasaki-tei Gardens are ideal spots for nature buffs to get out into the fresh air.

Keep an eye out for native flora and fauna as you journey through the leafy landscapes of the Chinzan-so Garden, the Institute for Nature Study, the University of Tokyo Botanical Garden and the Shibuya Fureai Botanical Center.

Whether you're in the mood to take a relaxing stroll or have a laugh with some friends, the nearby green spaces are wonderful places to be. Choose from either Yoyogi Park, Ueno Park, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden and Rikugi-en Garden.

A marvellous way to relive your holiday is by grabbing a few souvenirs. See what takes your fancy at Mitsukoshi, Omotesando Hills, Nekobukuro and Shinjuku Isetan.
