Holidays in Kudu

Forgetting a nine a.m. meeting with your boss is a sure-fire sign that you need a holiday. So why not step off the beaten track to Kudu and take in the attractive beaches, coastal plains, rivers and mountains of South Jeolla? (The only thing you'll need to remember is how to relax!)

It sits 310 kilometres to the south of the capital of South Korea, Seoul.

There's no need to travel for hours to see some outstanding natural sights. Pack up the car and make your way to Wolchulsan National Park, 45 kilometres away from Kudu, for a chilled-out day. Or maybe Suncheonman Bay Ecological Park is more your style? It sits just 35 kilometres away.

Experience the excitement of observing a live soccer match at Guus Hiddink Stadium, the home of the Gwangju FC. After you've clapped and roared along with their devoted fans, why not enjoy a drink with them somewhere nearby? To get to the stadium, head 50 kilometres northwest to Gwangju.

If you're thinking about venturing further afield, go 25 kilometres southwest to Jangheung. It's here you'll find Jangheung Council and Jeamsan Recreational Forest. We also suggest swinging by Hwasun, 30 kilometres to the northwest, for the Hwasun Dolmen Site and Dasan Misoolgwan.

Spend some time at Gwanbangjerim Forest Park, the Bamboo Museum and the Bamboo Garden. These sights are all not far from the middle of Damyang, 60 kilometres away. Looking for more? The Myeonangjeong Pavilion and Geumjeong Fwarang should also be on your to-do list.

An exciting way to see the local landscape is to embark on an outdoor adventure. Mountain climbing is one of the most popular activities here. But if that doesn't quite take your fancy, there's always hiking.

Picnicking is an excellent way to de-stress after a few hectic days of sightseeing. If you feel like you want more time in the open air, why not try beach combing as well?

With a little planning, making it to Muan International Airport (MWX), the closest airport, shouldn't be too much trouble. It's some 75 kilometres west of the centre of Kudu.
