Home style Japanese dinner and breakfast was delicious. The premise and surroundings were very quiet—a nice getaway from the bustling city. A home-like coziness. Family staff were most cordial and accommodating. Had fun riding the complementary bicycles. Only visited one temple site 15 minutes walk away, but what a gem! Ohara Sanzenin is a beauty—and we saw it at the tail end of Winter when one wouldn’t expect much to see. The temple and garden capture much of the essence that is Kyoto. Was very impressive. Surely, will plan a stay at Ryoso Chatani Ryokan in the future.
Bit of a trek from Kyoto 1 hour bus ride, but a quiet lovely rural town and good break from busy touristy attractions.
The Ryokan is clean with traditional tatami mat rooms.
Sleep on thin futons on the floor which some people might find too hard.
It seems like no air conditioning only heating, so may be hot in the summer time but in spring it was fine with heat turned off
Lovely hot shared onsen separate ones for men and women.
Yukata and kimono were provided for each guest to use around the premises.
Traditional Japanese breakfast with rice, miso soup, fish, pickled vegetables. I found the fish overcooked and too salty.
Free loan of bicycles for the area - really nice biking around to some nearby temples
Really friendly owner, highly recommend!

Lovely couple running the ryokan, good dinner, beautiful views, very happy.
family run B&B, very cosy and friendly. Went on an off-peak day so was very value for money. But do expect to share toilets as the room doesn't have in-room toilet.
