Super setting for the hotel
Friendly staff No lift so beware ! No usb points for phone or laptop so take a plug ! As solo traveller room service would be a nice option Bed comfortable but rooms cleans but could do with updating The hotel itself is a huge old building very impressive from the outside and the grounds and lake there are stunning Staff in the bar restaurant were excellent

Hassine and Chai as always (we're regular clients at Donnington) at reception are first class professionals - always helpful and obliging. We loved the new terraced area near Beaus Bar and the grounds in August are superb. We'll be back again soon.

A PERFECT STAY
Amazing!..stayed in a summer house..great views over lake and putting area..private patio area...spacious comfortable accommodation...great location and food amazing, so compliments to the chef!.. housekeeping also spot on...all in all a great 4 nights trip...will defo be back!

A couple of nights away with mum. Visited Highclere, Newbury & Winchester in terms of location it was great. Staff were very helpful. Hotel room needed quite a bit of TLC.

We choose one of the lodges in the walled garden due to it having a kitchen and private outside area to sit. Very roomy and bed excellent. Would have preferred to have a shower not a shower over the bath but to be honest we knew that as we booked. Overal the lodge eas clean, spotless bedding and towels. However the plates and utlery had not been washed properly so i washed those. The oven ould also do with a clean. The gardens were lovely and it was very convenient for highclere castle and newbury town centre. Dont bother with the restaurant its overpriced and not the best menu or great food

Stunning lakeside venue.
The hotel room and grounds were amazing... real old world charm, with polite and helpful staff. Beautiful lake and river short walk away, Also the castle on the hill with stunning views acrid Newbury... very picturesque.

Lovely quiet setting. Relaxing and comfortable. Good shower. Decor a bit dated but it is a historic and unique property which is nice. Golf on the site. Hairdresser and spa treatments. Great theatre nearby. Walking trails including up to 15th century Castle ruins.

I had a wonderful 2 night stay with my father. Booked this hotel from NewZealand. Warm Welcome , friendly staff & very unique interesting building. Views amazing from the room 302 Beautiful heritage building set in park like grounds with golf club. All staff excellent & Zoe very helpful with queries later evening ; night time.

We were there overnight for 1 night and had been at th theatre so unfortunately didn't get to experience any of the other hotel features as we had to leave relatively early the next morning

Noise noise noise
A return visit but a room booked in the main house. The room was large with an outstanding view but was tired, with outdated decor. However both nights we cld not sleep due to the noise in the lobby that travels upstairs via the open atrium. A party event was on, on the second night -which carried on until after 12pm and prevented any sleep. The hotel needs to: provide soft door closures as the toliet door kept banging sending vibrations up thru. Door seals on room doors- ours didn't have a seal and wld only close when locked leaving a gap around. Some sound proofing within the atruim itself and finally inform customers at time of booking an event is on allowing a decision as to whether you wish to stay or not. Unfortunately we were informed that we couldn't change room due to being fully booked and on speaking with reception in the am , informed that young people like to party and have no consideration- not true and it is the hotels responsibility to ensure all guests have a pleasant stay.
