Disliked: Staff & service, property conditions & facilities
Stay got off to a poor start. Called early in the day to notify the staff of the arrival time as there was potential due to traffic we might arrive past the 7.30-8.00 staffed hours. Staff acknowledged and said there shouldn’t be an issue.
Arrived at the hotel within the posted staffed hours and only just before our stated arrival time. Attended reception but was locked and unattended. Called the after hours number multiple times, left voicemails but no response.
40mins later, a staff member arrived. The attitude was that we had inconvenienced them. Was asked “how can I help”. We stated that we wanted to check in but have been waiting for 40mins. Was given some pretty negative attitude from staff. After a 14hr drive, we weren’t really off to a good start. If I’m brutally honest, had someone picked up the phone at any point and just said “we are off site” or similar, it wouldn’t have been as much of an issue.
The photos of the place did not match the reality of the place. The place was not overly well kept and was looking run down. The pool was being repaired and appeared to have been out of service for quite some time (not the biggest stopper but just added to the lacklustre experience)
It was pretty clear that the place was mainly used as a halfway house, with clinicians and parole officers regularly attending. That is fine but is not suitable for families.
I wouldn’t trust many of the positive reviews as it seems they mask the actual reviews and bump up the ratings
