We were attending the classic car show at Dalemain the following day and thought a local Inn would be more fun than the travel lodge. The weather was cool and changeable, we were surprised when we entered the Inn that inside it was as cold as outside , there was no evidence of heating. Despite being an Inn with a bar, there was no area for drinking, the whole place was set up for food. There was no guest lounge.
Our room was even colder as the window was open. There was an electric panel heating unit on the wall, but it was not working. The lighting came from a single central bulb with a dark shade so the lighting didn’t reach the walls. The bedside lamps were not bright enough to read by. There were no other peripheral lights. The television was high up on a chest of drawers on a fixed stand, so it was difficult to see, also the selection of chanels was very limited and BBC one and two were not available to select.
We had previously booked dinner, at a time suggested as less busy by reception. Despite this, we did not receive our food until one hour and five minutes after taking our seats!
Breakfast was strictly between 8.00 and 8.45 am. The breakfast area was even colder than the night before. Food provided was brought from the kitchen as ordered the night before on a choice pro forma.
The coffee was undrinkable, it was instant coffee one spoon for two cups.
In our room later we were disturbed by loud knocking at our door at 9.30 am. as it was time to leave!
