Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh, lies 200 kilometres to the southeast of Ratagan.

Search for intricate seashells to collect or try to spot small animals like starfish and sea urchins at Morar Beach and Gairloch Beach. You'll find these enticing pieces of coastline 35 kilometres and 55 kilometres away, respectively.

The splendour of Mother Nature is on full display in multiple places around Ratagan. Just 40 kilometres away, Liathach is a great place to start. Five Sisters of Kintail sits 6 kilometres away and is another favourite spot for a bit of downtime.

Spend your day moving between the frosty slopes and a roasting fire at Aonach Mor Ski Resort and Glen Coe Mountain Resort. From amateurs to pros, there's something to delight everyone at these winter paradises.

Kyle, 4 kilometres to the northwest, is well known for Eilean Donan Castle and Glenelg Brochs. Why not find your way there and go to these popular sights? Or, you could stop at Stromeferry, 14 kilometres to the north of Ratagan, for Loch Carron and Plockton Harbour.

Inverness, 80 kilometres to the east, may be worthy of a day trip. Use it as a base when stopping by Inverness Castle, Eastgate Shopping Centre and the Eden Court Theatre. If you need more persuading, other nearby sights include Inverness Cathedral and the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery.

There's a whole world of amazing flavours waiting to meet your taste buds in Scottish Highlands. With so many decadent things to nibble on, all you need to take along is a robust appetite — and perhaps a pair of stretchy jeans.

During your time in Ratagan, you should eat like the locals do. That means sampling a plate of Scotch pie or cullen skink (fish soup), two of the area's signature dishes.

If you really want to see the big pitcher, take the hopportunity to gulp down a beer. Schooner rather than later! Bad beer puns aside, don't forget to try Belhaven, one of the most well-known local brews.

Time spent exploring the picturesque Scottish Highlands region is an enriching and unique experience, and it's sure to have touched you with its magic. But alas, all good things must eventually come to an end.

If you're flying back, it's a wise idea to plan your route to the terminal in advance. From the middle of Ratagan, you'll need to journey about 160 kilometres southeast to Glasgow International Airport (GLA), the closest airport.
