Very disappointed. I was allocated a waterfront cottage located in between a road and a car park. It was noisy and shook when trucks went up the hilly road next to it. There was absolutely no private area to sit outside and enjoy the view (of the road and car park). Although I could see the water it was hardly waterfront nor located on the esplanade as stated in my booking information and looked nothing like the pictures online. When I expressed my concerns, I was only offered an upgrade if I paid extra as there were no ‘similar’ rooms available. Be wary if booking a waterfront cottage.
Good but not amazing. We were in the big main timber building above reception and had a great view over the harbour in our "executive room" with balcony.
But this area of town now feels "corporatised" with one company seemingly managing all the properties in the area and cross-promoting the cafes, bars and restaurants, located just metres away. But virtually everything nearby shuts down at 8pm.
This was my third visit in 20 years and Strahan has lost its quaint charm. Now the place is seemingly being taken over by big tourism businesses, while the small businesses are being squeezed. What happened to the small ferry operators and seaplane tours?
I recommend supporting the family-owned local operators in what is now a big tourist trap.
Excellent property and view over the harbour at Strahan, with easy access to the onsite restaurant and bar. Note a number of steps down to the harbour front and river cruises so be mindful for older or less mobile travelers.
We stayed in a cottage which was lovely and spacious inside. It was very conveniently located also and we could walk to everything we needed. The only downside was the cottage we stayed in wasn’t with the main group of cottages and on one side of our cottage was a car park and the other side was a road so it was a bit noisy.
Lovely spot, great views and convenience for food attractions and dining options. Only have 1 major gripe as a negative, it had a terribly overly soft mattress. Otherwise, I would highly recommend.
Nice place in a small town. Though our room looked a bit dated, it was comfortable and the dining options were good. Easy access to nearby attractions.
Such a wonderful chocolate box house experience. View was amazing. We sat on the verandah having a fresh seafood basket. Looking at the river. We will be back
Old hotel and rooms in need of desperate makeover. Could not book in for breakfast or dinner as it was completely booked out by bus tour groups.
NOT A GOOD PLACE TO STAY
