The Fare Pea Iti Lodge is charming and relaxed; we enjoyed the location, the meals and the family atmosphere. The expeditions to visit the island of Taha'a and out to a motu were excellent. It happened to be festival month and so we were also treated to an outing to see an authentic Taha'a dance exposition.
Our bungalow was comfortable and we enjoyed the traditional, rustic design. More homey than hotel-ish. The guest wifi failed during our stay, which was inconvenient, but this led us to slow down and be present more than we otherwise would have.
The only source of some stress was communication. Our emails before arrival were not answered very consistently. And we did not realize that no staff members there spoke English. We had to dust off our highschool French in order to communicate. The manager did not seem eager to help bridge the gap, for example by helping communicate through Google Translate, which they assured us they were familiar with. Perhaps anglophone visitors are not their priority.
Other than that difficulty, we felt that the staff were remarkably kind and interested in our enjoyment and in our having the opportunity to appreciate Taha'a culture.
