The rooms had a classic "Showa era" style, which gave them a great atmosphere, and were quite spacious for two people. The onsen was on the small side but clean and nice, with a pretty outdoor area. There was a lounge area with free drinks, nuts, and dried fruit. It was a decent value. I'd stay there again.

Staff are friendly & service is good. Good breakfast spread & rooms are clean. We enjoyed our stay & will consider to be back again.

The staff was standout at Hotel Housei, they went above and beyond to ensure enjoyable stay. The meals were beautifully presented with wide variety of different foods. The room was spacious with tatami mats. Loved the indoor and outdoor baths / springs. Close to everything. Unexpected top notch service and value, indeed a winner.

Wonderful ryokan operated by a friendly couple - they went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable by letting us borrow boots for the snow and driving us up to the Snow Monkey park.

What really made our stay special is kindness and attentiveness of the staff. We had large suitcases, and though the train station was a five minute walk, the front desk manager noticed us struggle walking uphill and came to our rescue with a hotel van, loaded and unloaded our bags. The dropoff service was not included, and we did not ask for it. He did it out of compassion and kindness. Very touching. Food was delicious! Do book dinner if its available. We had a traditional tatami room, which was cute, though a bit dated with some tears on the faded couch upholstery. The shower was very small, which is expected. We were lucky to have a private shower as many ryakans make you share. Great experience overall.
