Liked: Cleanliness
Just OK
Felt like going back in time. Decor is very dated. Very much in need of a refurb. Cleanliness and general room condition was ok, but would have expected a bit more for the price paid. Our room also had a slanted roof and wasn’t very big anyway but this made it feel much smaller. Also didn’t think that the £1.50 charge for towels to use the pool was really necessary or justified within the price we paid.
Visited for one night and we were both very impressed for the price. The staff were all friendly, the room was nice and clean. We stayed DB&B and the breakfast was lovely from the buffet. The evening meal was at The Fat Abbot and this was also really good. Following the meal we sat in the bar at the hotel and ennjoyed a drink in front of the open fire. Liked it that much we are having another night next week.
We stayed Friday for 1 night while visiting the Christmas markets. Great hotel and spa formerly the money. We paid for dinner bed and breakfast and ate in the Fat Abbot on site pub. Bus to York took about 30 mins and was every 15 minute £2 each way.
I went for food in the restaurant pub, i asked for the bill waited fir 30 minute's and had to go to the bar as i 30 minute's wait for a bill is shocking. Will not be staying there again.
The room was functional for a one night stay. Very dark decor in the room, but clean with complementary tea and biscuits. A half sized wardrobe with one hanger, not great. Ok electric shower, plenty of towels. Spa experience was nothing special, freezing cold shower both in the spa area and changing area. A little dated would be a good analogy. Visited the Fat Abbot, staff were ok but lacked any atmosphere, tables needed wiping and some of the furnishings were grubby.
Lovely hotel, great staff and a nice cosy spa. Will definitely stay again
