Holidays in Anakie

Yep. Wanderlust — it gets right into your soul. So, isn't it about time you booked your next adventure? Anakie awaits!

It's located 520 kilometres to the southwest of Canberra, the country's capital.

Put a big smile on your kids' faces with a trip to Fairy Park.

Enjoy a leisurely stroll and feel the gentle sea breeze on your face at St. Kilda Beach or Brighton Beach.

It's common knowledge that spending time outdoors can improve your well-being, both mental and physical. In light of that, why wouldn't you journey 40 kilometres out of Anakie to Point Cook Coastal Park? Enfield State Park, just 50 kilometres away, is another popular choice.

Make your way 25 kilometres south to Kardinia Park to catch an exciting live game of Australian rules football (AFL). Located in Greater Geelong City, the arena is the home turf of the Geelong Football Club, so put on some navy and white and get ready to cheer!

Waterworld and the Lara Heritage and Historical Museum are not far from the middle of Lara, 13 kilometres to the southeast. Want more? Little River, 16 kilometres to the east of Anakie, is home to the Mt Rothwell Biodiversity Interpretation Centre and Serendip Sanctuary.

Travellers and locals alike often head over to Hamlyn Heights. This destination is 20 kilometres to the south and not far from the Geelong Performing Arts Center, the Geelong Golf Course and the National Wool Museum. If you're staying a while, don't miss Rippleside Park and The Heights Heritage House and Garden.

Whether you enjoy the thrill of Michelin stars or gulping down a snack from a street stall, tasting the local food and drink is maybe the best thing about travel. So why not tantalise your taste buds by trying some of the region's mouthwatering offerings?

Typical fare here tends to include beef and dairy products, two of the staple ingredients for which the local region is famous for dishing up.

While Anakie offers an assortment of culinary comforts, you shouldn't leave without sampling salt and pepper squid and meat pie. Considered classic local dishes, you'll need to stick them on your must-try list if you really want to taste this destination.

Because a life without dessert is no life at all, you should definitely acquaint yourself with peach melba. This sweet treat represents the region in just one mouthful.

It can be difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff when it comes to superb beers, but one beer worth sipping on is Melbourne Bitter. Grab one and bottoms up!

Prefer something with a bit more kick? You have to try Bundaberg Spiced Rum. Ask your bar person if it's good in any cocktails. If that fails, hoist your shot glass and drink it down straight!

Lift a glass of a local wine like Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon or Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir. Sommelier or not, there's nothing else like a flavoursome drop.

If you're flying back, it's a good idea to map your route to the terminal in advance. From the middle of Anakie, it's approximately 55 kilometres northeast to Tullamarine Airport (MEL), the closest airport.
