About this property

Black Lake Mountain Retreat. The rural setting welcomes birds and bird watchers.

Attached two story house in a quiet rural area situated between forest and meadow which teems with birds and hawks, and is visited by deer and elk and the occasional coyote. I garden with native plants and encourage visits from a variety of birds. Which use the 40 foot spruce as their own apartment. A pair of red tail hawks hunt in the back pasture. You can catch them on camera while having coffee on the back porch.

Centrally located in the Moreno Valley/Black Lake area at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo mountains it is an easy drive to a variety of interesting day trips. See Charley's Hideaway Guest House (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61550969463137) for more details and seasonal updates.

The main floor is an open plan with large living area with wood burning stove. It opens into a gourmet kitchen and family dining. Meals can be prepared without leaving the discussion of the day's adventures.

Driveway ample for two vehicles but not motorhomes.
A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Complimentary wireless internet access keeps you connected, and a Smart television is provided for your entertainment. The bathroom has a bathtub and a hair dryer. Conveniences include a desk and a microwave.
Take in the views from a garden and make use of amenities such as barbecue grills.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Accurate description, lovely stay.
We had an excellent time staying here. The owner lives onsite, but you’d never know it. The property is as it’s described in the listing. We brought our two dogs and they enjoyed the fenced-in yard. Plenty of pots, pans, and utensils allowed us to cook all our meals at the home. Absolutely beautiful area of New Mexico. Would highly recommend.

Jaqui has done a great job making this little home warm and cozy. We enjoyed the quiet, bucolic setting and the spacious, homey furnishings. Beds and linens were comfortable, everything was clean and well-maintained. We were glad to stay and will return next time!

Quiet and comfortable mountain getaway
We stayed here with our dog for four nights during the Fall color season. It was very comfortable and pleasant. The house was well stocked with many essentials and more. The Wi-Fi worked well - we could stream HD movies. The location is nice near Eagle Nest Lake, Cimarron Canyon and a short drive away from Red River or Taos / Rio Grande Gorge. Fuel and groceries are readily available in Angel Fire. There are many trails in the vicinity with difficulty ratings from easy to more challenging. On and near the property itself we could see wildlife such as deer, hawks and prairie dogs. We would definitely recommend this place.

Great stay for year four
This was our fourth year staying at the Black Lake Mountain Retreat. It is perfect for a long stay with dogs. The back yard is fenced, and there are plenty of places to walk your friends. The house is well equipped with everything you need to cook meals. Of course the scenery is beautiful, the hummingbirds plentiful, not to mention the hawk, bluebirds and many others we will be back!

Delightful time in Black Lake
My wife and I travel often. We are seniors who have traveled now for 47 years seeing much of the world. We have used VRBO homes now for 35+ years. Our recent VRBO experience was terrific. Everything about our 6 week stay in this home was good. The home itself is an older duplex home located in a country community called Black Lake. Black Lake is 7 miles from Angel Fire where we enjoy golf, hiking and various social activities. Over our six weeks, our location was near Taos, Eagles Nest, Reds River, Espanola & Santa Fe which allowed easy day drip adventures. The home is tastefully decorated with nice furniture, spacious comfortable bedrooms (2) and bath rooms. The owner lives in the duplex home next door. Here name is Jacqui. She was never intrusive. She was always available to help with any questions we had. Jacqui is also an accomplished artist. Several of Jacqui's paintings were vibrantly presented throughout our home. One of my family roles is to cook for us as we travel. The kitchen was spacious with everything we needed. Rather than go on about everything we loved about Jacqui's home, I end my review with this statement. We enjoyed 6 weeks this past trip at Jacqui's home. We will definitely go back to stay with her next summer. Next time we intend to rent Jacqui's home for 8 weeks.

Family Vacation
We had a great time staying here! House had everything we needed and it was a huge bonus to be able to bring our dogs. We went hiking in the snow and sledding a ton. The location is great being just a bit out of the town proper, super quiet and lovely scenery. I enjoyed watching the cows behind the house and listening to the rooster. Great place for a family to stay, we will definitely be back!

Great place for an easy getaway
Great place. If you are looking for a easy going low maintenance stay this is your place. Backyard doesn’t have a lot of space but was great for letting dogs out between skiing. Not the fanciest place but has everything anyone would need. Owner was right next door for any needs. Her art is displayed in the house and is a great addition. Would highly recommend for the price and location.

Cozy, warm, and hairy
This cabin was comfy, warm, and plenty of amenities, however, we found hair (dog and human) every where. We had to change the sheets when we first got there because of all the hair in the bed. There was a lot of snow on the ground and it was warm inside.

A week in the mountains
Nice location a few miles from the town Angel Fire, in a valley area with cows roaming nearby fields. Our dog enjoyed having a backyard to run in, and loved watching the cows. House is cozy and warm with a well appointed kitchen for cooking our own meals. Also nice to have a full size washer and dryer. Easy and moderate trails to hike nearby, which our dog loved!

Would not recommend this to my friends
The owner was next door and rather grumpy when ask for help on WiFi We found mouse droppings in the drawers of the kitchen! The downstairs 1/2 bath sink was digustingly dirty! There was no A/C. She said we wouldn’t need it. It was 78-80 degrees every day we were there. Her answer was open the windows. I forgot my pillow I always take with me and she said she would have to see about sending it back because she’d have to take time to find and box and then have to take time to mail it. We would never recommend this place.

This is the third year we've stayed here to escape the Texas heat. Jacqui is an excellent host available to answer questions but respectful of our privacy. The location is perfect for us and there is plenty to do in the area or in a short drive. Highly recommended.

A Charming & Delightful Retreat
Jacqui's Angel Fire Retreat is a true gem. It is not only charmingly decorated, the location is right in the middle of a valley with beautiful views and very close (6 miles) to Angel Fire which has a grocery store, gas stations, coffee shops, gift shops and several restaurants. Endless hiking trails and activities abound. One of the delights of our stay was that 100s of migrant hummingbirds were staying on her property at the time. They were on constant display through the living room window since Jacqui placed 2 hummingbird feeders there. She is a thoughtful, friendly, and easy-to-communicate-with host who has paid attention to every detail a traveler would want. To top that, her place is dog friendly with a fenced backyard which worked wonderfully for us and our doggies. Thank you, Jacqui, for your warm hospitality and for hosting us! My friend and I loved our time in your home and hope to visit again. Also, thank you for your referral to your mechanic when it was much needed. Very thoughtful of you and a lifesaver! :) PS If visiting, please don't miss "Lady Slipper Trail" near Monte Verde Lake. It's very near the home (about 2 miles towards Angel Fire) and it's an easy, beautiful trail. It is near the lake which has another trail and kayak and boat rentals. Had to share this great find of our trip! :)
